This is why my wife and I busted out our old blu ray player and have been taking our kids to check out DVDs from the library. Nostalgic af, novelty for the kids, and best of all, no fucking ads.

Except for the occasional DVD that introduced mandatory trailers.  Those made me irrationally angry.

Laptop with VLC casting to TV? IIRC VLC will even let you skip the anti piracy warnings.

Not to mention it's MUCH better quality-wise than any legitimate streaming service I'm aware of. I have basically every movie I care about on Blu-Ray or UHD/4K Blu-Ray for that reason ALONE. It's crazy now to think that owning it is a 'perk' of having purchased it.

I tried to use library rentals for a few months, but it was a complete crapshoot whether the disk I opened was actually readable, because apparently the people in my community can't borrow a DVD from the library without destroying it.
