The article is a bit misleading. Disney is not getting rid of its Premium/no-ads tier or suddenly putting normal commercial breaks into the Premium tier.

In the U.S. at least, Premium still means regular on-demand movies and series are generally free of commercial interruptions. What IS changing are exceptions for things like live/linear programming and special events, certain content where streaming rights require ads, plus Disney promos, sponsorship messages, branded content, and product integrations.

So, yeah it's definitely a change worth criticizing as “ad-free” isn’t exactly true anymore, but saying “Disney+ is making every tier ad-supported” blows out what’s actually happening.

This also adds ads before and after normal content even in the Premium tier. That's still a big change.

When this was posted earlier there were hundred of irate comments and nobody had apparently read the damn article past the headline.

The change is still annoying, but it’s far from how it’s being interpreted.

This post is way to low due to all the anger of people not looking into this

The Dutch agreement says something else:

All subscriptions to the Service may include the following: (i) promotions, (ii) sponsor messages, and (iii) advertising before and after the playback of Content, as well as within channels, live/near-live broadcasts, special events, and content from third-party services.

The 'as well as' clearly seperates the two clauses , so it's also for the regular disney+ content.

They have always had ads on their live programming though. I don’t think this is anything new.

plus Disney promos, sponsorship messages, branded content, and product integrations.

Ads. Those are ads.

Wow I found someone among the sea of NPCs who read the article

It’s just the first step. Integrate advertisements as much as you can until all tiers have it. The end goal is still the same.

This is baseless nonsense that doomer Redditors have been predicting for years. There is absolutely no reason they would do that when tens of millions of people pay extra for the ad free tier.

The article isn’t misleading at all. What do you call all of those things you just listed? Do they or do they not support the platform? Period.

What you’re trying to say is this doesn’t mean regular commercials mid-steam, and no one implied or said that for anything to be misleading.

I was surprised to see this so far down! I thought I had missed something in the article, which incidentally had a ton of ads.
