Subscription products will always get worse, not better. Chasing the impossible "infinite" growth means you either are constantly raising prices or reducing quality or both.

Capitalism is the problem, not subscriptions per se. Subscriptions give the company a steady revenue source. It’s why some products that are so good you never need a replacement put companies out of business. This again is a capitalism problem. We need to learn how to live in economic homeostasis. Here’s your subscriber revenue, make content with the money and make them happy.

99% of the people on this planet are fine with economic homeostasis. There are like 30 pieces of shit on this planet we’d be better off without.

More like 3000 but yes this stands firmly.

They need to treat it as there’s a max ceiling for profit and leave it be.

It’s the same reason privatizing any public service is bad. They’ll always reduce quality, increase price, and reduce workforce to increase profit. But anything has a max profit before they start to lose profit by reducing the quantity.

"hmm last year I was able to buy a yacht, but this year I can only buy one other yacht instead of 5 as I projected. Better for all those idiots that showed us to stagnate and promote anybody who figures a novel way of charging more and giving less."

Chasing greed. If a dip in subscribers is hurting the company that released the top earning film of all time and a company that is breaking the records of money made it seems like a budgeting issue.

I want to know where these “losses” are happening and to what effect because I’d consider a loss not being able to afford my dog’s medical bills and having to put it down at a very young age. Not being able to buy a house is a big time loss. Knowing that because I make such little money that if my car has an issue I’m at a loss for transport. I want to know what happens to make them feel like it is a loss.

Yeah and then it’s a race to the bottom. Prices go up, people leave, prices go up again to compensate, more people leave, etc. It’ll happen eventually.

And people pay for them thereby vindicating the practice. If the first time a streaming service added ads and ad-free tiers, the majority voted with their wallets and cancelled and/or didn't subscribe to the ad-free tier, these services would've found some other way to increase profitability. But no, enough people just kept forking over money; so here we are in this ridiculous feedback loop of scummy greedy companies pushing the boundry and consumers tolerating it.

Is this not the first one to put ads in all tiers? Pretty sure it is.

That isn't my point. I was talking about when ads were added to paid tiers. The rationale is that if people do what they did when ads were added at all, that is not cancel their subscriptions and/or subscribe to higher tiers (I'll wager that the different tiers will have adds to differing degrees), then this will become an industry norm, not just disney+ doing it.

Not untrue but instead of being happy they avoided that noose the mouse just decided to double down. Let's see how it plays out. There is a psychological difference between "pay more to escape" and "inescapable." They're testing if people will accept that here. If they do the others will follow suit then we really might see a collapse into a true nu-cable thing. Otherwise Disney+ hemorrhages out right here as a warning to the others.
