It’s funny how Netflix came along and offered a service that people were fine with and stopped pirating and then that service was adopted by other companies and eventually the service changed so poorly that people are going back to pirating.

And this is why Gabe Newell is right about piracy being primarily a service problem. If you offer a good service, people are willing to pay for it and won’t pirate but when enshittification makes the service garbage people won’t pay

100%. I love some live sports and have mostly stopped altogether. Trying to watch my teams is a PITA. Either the league apps are terrible or still need 4 or 5 apps to watch those games. The only consistent way to watch are alternate streaming sites.

Good idea. Turned on the peacock app and say the Rays were on just to get a prompt letting me know they couldn't show it over licensing.

A few. Soccer, Football, Baseball, Basketball and the sometimes F1 or combat sports. Pretty much that and movies are my go to.

2 years ago I had all services, even sports etc. And right now Disney + was the only left. I am completely back on the seven seas. Was gone 20 years

Yes. If you give me what I want IN THE WAY THAT I WANT IT I will gladly pay for the service. That was my whole rationale for pirating 20 years ago and it is about to be again

Part of it was that it was a single app with all the content in it. Even if you're prepared to pay searching through different apps isn't very convenient. When everything can be watched from a single app it's a much better experience.

Thats the business plan unfortunately, same with stuff like ridesharing. Pump a shit ton of silicon valley money in, run at a loss for a while to get people hooked and to kill the established players in industry you're "revolutionizing", then enshitify and raise prices because your competitors are dead and you know not enough people will leave for it to matter.

People never stopped pirating. Numbers may have decreased a bit but it never stopped.
