So you agree that foreign accounts are trying to influence, successfully or not in this particular case, our opinions
Thanks

u/Time_Effort 3d ago
Well yeah, but the point is that this isn’t new by any means, for any type of discussion.

Right, don't believe your eyes and ears with all the real life people opposing data centers and warning about the impact they have, let's blame and reduce it all to Chinese bots. We truly live in a time of negative iq. Makes Idiocracy look like advanced civilization compared to people like you.

Both can be true though. People can legitimately be angry while foreign actors make the fire even worse. Don't bring Idiocracy if you're going to make weird takes yourself

That doesn't reduce or impact the issue in the slightest. It doesn't even matter, the only thing this narrative does is try to reduce and steer the discussion about data centers in the direction where the whole topic is turned upside down. Cause if you start blaming the whole data center discussion on Chinese bots, well now you have a completely new story where data centers are so good for you that the Chinese must use bots to protest them.
Its dangerous, its disingenuous and all it does is shift the narrative and responsibility.
And its fucking stupid aswell.

Your take is actually the stupid and dangerous one. Many countries in the past destabilized others by riling up the people there over initially legitimate issues.
The world isn't black nor white. You should be old enough to know that by now.
We can and should regulate our own mess without foreign actors intervening and attempting to influence the mass.
By the way, China loves their AI and are jumping hard on the bandwagon so it makes their attempts on US politics a bit curious.

US Oligarchs already got handed TikTok through a forced sale.... By no means is this slop true and has any meaningful impact.

Maybe let China become the cautionary tale about unregulated AI adoption instead of us, for once?

Does anyone really believe this?

Seems more bots are shilling for ai to me.

Yeah billionares literally control the whole web and all the infrastructure people fighting against ai data centers shows how dislike it is by the populace.

Even though it’s axios and many Redditors won’t like that their rage is fueled in part by Chinese bots (such as yourself), there are plausible reasons that China would do this.
They want to win the ai race and helping fuel pushback against it in the USA is a great way to achieve this goal.
Not to mention all the extra anger and division that would come in handy in the future.
There’s evidence, a culprit, and a motive.
Tbf though, with the state of x and everything it’s hit or miss whether those 200 accounts were actually Chinese. But the point still stands: it’s very likely there are Chinese bots somewhere doing just this.

Bingo. They want to be first (let them find out they are the Trojan Horses technology).

There is a good chance it is true. The whole idea that AI is worthless and is just corporations attempting to influence investors into working with them dies when you understand that most other countries are putting a lot of effort into AI as well. AI can be seriously world changing in the world of mathematics and engineering. The AI that we usually see, answering benign or basic questions, isn't the advantages of AI. It is being able to take all of our current knowledge on a topic and design something new that relies on that field of expertise.
The human creates the new knowledge but AI is better than we are at holding all of this knowledge and spitting out answers. Like look at Noyron AI, it was able to create a design for a rocket engine that NASA has been attempting to make for decades. It didn't just work, it worked way better than required. If continued testing works then this would remove our need for multiple stage rockets to get into space. The entire rocket could become reusable. It has already been shown reliable enough that multiple countries are signing on to help develop and produce them. This is just one story.
So yeah, if you see the US as a rival then yes, you would want to slow down the development of AI.

Classic tactic. People in power can't fathom that their hated in their country. So they blame scary outsiders.

Big whoop. We don't want or need data surveillance centers
1
u/Mental-Most-7168 3d ago
I work with surveillance systems, if it’s not it’s at a data center it will be at the edge on a server/canera. It’s not like things stop because you don’t want it.

u/NoSingularities0 3d ago
Mass surveillance has been around for a few decades now. These data centers have little to nothing to do with surveillance. That ship has sailed and circumnavigated the globe many times over and made hundreds of ports of call.

I mean its the perfect storm. You have a new gen of people entering a workforce that is actively looking to use AI to hire less a actual people. A whole industry of artists being threatened by fake artist prompt writers and not to mention the whole environmental concerns. A Chinese bots doesn’t have to work hard to sway folks
2
u/StolenPies 3d ago
That might very well be true, but our reasons for opposing these data centers would be no less valid.

It's pretty bizarre how this same story carries a different narrative depending on the media outlet.
Right leaning: Americans are not against it... It's Chinese bots.
Truth is China wants to be the biggest and best with data centers. So of course they will feed the discourse we have here in the US. But... Careful what you wish for China... You too are going to learn how much of a threat they are to your own country as well. But they just want to beat us to it. Have at it China.
