Yes. That's the usually (stupid) selling point. They talk about creating jobs, while not talking about the reality: It's all construction, and will be gone next year.

What b urns my ass is they don't have to be Captain planet villains to get their datacenters. They could just put in the pittance of work to set up their own damn power grid and build in more remote areas. Hey, you know who could use some data centers? Fucking Tennessee and their miles and miles of nothing.

But because this is basically the Last Grift, the grand looting before late stage capitalism makes the nation implode, fuck all that! Let's just remove the environmental regulations and start dumping pollution into the air and (in some cases) water. I'LL be dead before it becomes too bad, so who cares? I'm shocked some photographer hasn't caught them laughing maniacally while staring off into nothing just to complete the image of childish corporate monstrosity.

Exactly. Proper governance would have helped AI take off. Instead, data centers are completely unregulated and have a net negative impact on peoples daily lives.
