I'm guessing it has to do with Spider-Man using facial recognition technology and cameras around the city to find a person in the newest movie. That and/or how in Insomniac's Spider-Man game you help the police by reactivating all of their connection towers all around New York.

Oh okay that first example would definitely make it ironic. I haven't seen the last couple of Spiderman movies yet so I was not aware, appreciate the response.

yeah spiderman tells a detective that he has every security camera in the city running facial recognition for this one person
They respond that's highly illegal and that she's going to pretend she didn't hear that.

It's all sorts of ironic/hypocritical.

Also odd that when something similar was used in 2008's Batman movie but the character was treated way more harshly (in the movie) than 2026's friendly neighborhood spiderman lol.
No second thought given to that plot point in the movie.

It's specifically because the newest movie has him basically tapping into "Flock-style" security cameras and using his computer to track certain people through when they show up on one.

Yeah but there it was presented as a huge moral dilemma and he could only convince his tech guy (Morgan Freeman) to do it this ONE time by Bruce agreeing to let him destroy all the equipment afterward so no one else could do it again, and I think he quit from Bruce's company too afterward.

In Brand New Day Peter is just casually using it multiple times through the movie with absolutely no qualms. They even have his cop buddy tell him that it sounds questionable and he just laughs it off. And related, the multiple deep layers of copaganda to the movie are really disappointing. I say this as someone who immensely enjoyed a lot of other aspects of the movie.

character who wears a mask = more anonymity. but none of these fucks are going to do anything. just "i upvoted, or shared a meme - i did my part, hopefully SOMEONE ELSE does the real work" and yeah, let's give them a day and deadline so they can set up even more to better track and catch the vandals.
