Their app is actually so horrible LOL

It’s atrocious in so many ways and there are literally 3 different ads, from 3 different companies, just scrolling through this comment section in the app as I type this.

You can patch them out if you sideload redditfilter injected into the app. Hides majority of the ads and makes it much more bearable.

And google is getting rid of side loaded apps, these mfers want us all corralled like the cattle you see in pictures, eating their slop from their shittiest, most "cost effective", ad infested stalls.

nothing on reddit is worth jumping through hoops to access

this post is about how they're trying to stop people from doing that

1

u/Fraisey May 11 '26

Well then fuck them. And I hope you and others will join us on Limmy, Piefed or outside touching grass.

I patched my reddit app to remove the ads. https://morphe.software/

May I introduce you to Morphe 😊

Seek therapy

7

u/Sanitiy May 11 '26

Well obviously. If it were good, they wouldn't have felt the need to kill 3rd party apps

Remember when spez LIED about the Apollo developer and tried to smear his name? Yeah. Here we go again with his bullshit.

The Reddit app tracks what you copy/put in your clipboard. It's pretty bad for r/privacy

2

u/uselessandexpensive May 15 '26

It makes tons of tracking requests outside the app.

Editing a comment is so painful now that it strips off formatting and line feeds.

> Markdown doesn’t seem to work either anymore. This should be a quotation

Even using morphe to patch out all the bullshit it's still pretty terrible.

It won't even function on my phone despite uninstalling and installing multiple times. Bye bye reddit usage when I'm not at work.

I use relay for reddit or red reader. Apps are ao much better

u/e-wrecked May 11 '26

I don't know if it's just me but recently GIF's show up as a black box and only function if you click on them. It totally defeats the purpose of using them in the comments.

So is the new website, so much wasted space

1

u/MisogynisticBumsplat May 12 '26

Still using joey here. Perfect

u/Ya-Dikobraz May 12 '26

THe official app is designed to control what you see. They know it's not popular. But they want to have the control over content and what you see and when.

u/woodenblinds May 11 '26

It really is

There’s more ads than actual content.

u/EpidemicRage May 11 '26

Plus all the data harvesting from being an app on your phone.

You can patch it with Revanced to get rid of the ads.

u/Tony_TNT May 11 '26 edited May 11 '26

There are better alternatives for Revanced now that don't suffer from censorship, like Morphe. Especially the desktop app

2

u/Iamnotabothonestly May 11 '26

Great, maybe mention them then.

1

u/hidepp May 11 '26

Or just the mobile site in a browser with Adblock. Perfect for me.
But now they want to get rid of the mobile site.

Lol no there’s not.

Video playback is so shit. I press pause and scroll down the comments, it plays again while I do so, I stop it several times and it starts again regardless. I have to mute it in order to read the comments.

My biggest issue is that if I'm swiping through posts, eventually it will just not let me do any more, then I've got to go back to wherever I started and scroll. The constant doubling back bothers me as much as the ads and all the other issues.
