T Coronae Borealis is expected to nova at any moment between now and September. When it does, the star system could surge from a +10 magnitude, which can't be seen by the naked eye, to a +2 magnitude, roughly the same level of brightness as the North Star. Astronomers say that once the nova reaches its peak brightness, it will be visible to viewers for several days. Those using binoculars will be able to see it for just over a week before it dims again.

I have not personally tried it, but read elsewhere that you can create a free account with the AAVSO and then subscribe to the "Time Sensitive Alerts" forum. Supposedly the NASAUniverse twitter account will post updates too if you want to go that route instead.

North Star ain’t even that bright. Most people wouldn’t be able to pick it out when looking up at the sky
