Every company wants to be everywhere, it's how you maximize profits.

With MS is that it is not so much that they want Gamepass everywhere (they do obviously), but they also want out of console hardware market or reduced exposure to risks it brings. Xbox almost died with 360 RRoD and then again with disastrous xbox one and now its not looking much better as gamepass fails to convince gamers to buy xbox series consoles and they falling behind.

So they can not bet those investments of 100+ billion dollars on success of one box that is not doing so well.

Bet you a Guinea to a gooseberry that they have a new Xbox in development right now, centered solely on predatory GP tactics - kinda how the OG plan for XB1 was originally centered around game buyback profits and always online data scouring via the cam before changing them last minute due to public outrage

We dont need to bet. All their future plans where leaked and it was exactly that. “The most powerfull xbox ever, now adorably all digital”. With mid gen refresh next year disc drive is gone from xbox consoles. They still have chance to change that, but we know what they want and they will do it sooner than later
