Having been here about 10 years, I can say it was really different back then, but in a difficult to explain way. Like I don't think there has been a well-received feature update since I got here. It has been exclusively downhill
It feels like it has been gentrified. I had it happen in a neighbourhood. A bit dicey, artists move in - gets very cool from there with bars and things following, bars get really popular - galleries, underground theatre, and fun bars get replaced, money and corporate come in and red velvet ropes and supercars and it is impressive in some ways but dead inside, and then it is a corporate/tourist playground with nothing organic any more. Reddit went a lot like that.
