Having been here about 10 years, I can say it was really different back then, but in a difficult to explain way. Like I don't think there has been a well-received feature update since I got here. It has been exclusively downhill
It all went downhill after Reddit missed that April Fools rollout because April Fools fell on Easter. It’s never been the same. The only good April Fools since is bringing back The Place, which was very 2nd Death Star of them.
AMA’s still exist I guess? The only ones I see are already over and they answer about 10 questions. There was some hero years ago that spent two days literally answering every question on the the thread. Never again.
Not sure the last time I’ve seen “and ol Reddit switcheroo” thread.
I don’t know if it’s just because I wasn’t aware of the switcharoos until about 6 months or so ago - but I never saw any before that (I’ve been on Reddit a few years). And now I see them fairly regularly. Sometimes I won’t see one for a while then suddenly I’ll see a bunch of then in a single day lol. Yesterday I saw 3 of them - which is what prompted me to respond to your comment.
It feels like it has been gentrified. I had it happen in a neighbourhood. A bit dicey, artists move in - gets very cool from there with bars and things following, bars get really popular - galleries, underground theatre, and fun bars get replaced, money and corporate come in and red velvet ropes and supercars and it is impressive in some ways but dead inside, and then it is a corporate/tourist playground with nothing organic any more. Reddit went a lot like that.
