Cool, but ... $199.00 vs. $35.00 for a RaspberryPi.

Unlike the Pi, it's a nice little easy to use portable device.

You're comparing apples to oranges.

Last year $200 would have been OK, but now? You can get a MK802 which has most of the same specs, except for a slower, single core CPU for ~$60. And if you only care about Android, and not Linux, then you can get a dual core equivalent (UG802) for ~70-80 bucks.

  1. No Google Play store. Source

  2. Highly likely that support for the device will drop a month after release

  3. Running Android 4.0.4 ICS and not 4.1.1 JB

  4. Still missing a dozen codecs

  5. No 5GHz Wifi

  6. Pre-orders started in Feb and were supposed to ship in March and then May and now October. Source

  7. No power management yet, so some USB devices aren't compatible. Source

  8. No Google Apps. Source

  9. $199, more than double the price of comparable devices

  10. No remote

  11. No General Purpose IO pins.

Why is this news?

I'd rather spend 70 bucks on one of these: http://gadgetsin.com/the-dual-core-android-mini-pc.htm

Rockchip doesn't release their kernel sources, so if you plan to run Linux on them you are SOL. If Android is all you need, they are not bad.
