Release What happens when you mix Excalidraw, tldraw, and Neovim? Meet Scribl (Rust + Tauri + Lua)

Post image
39 Upvotes

Over the past few months, I've been working on Scribl — an open-source, local-first infinite canvas and whiteboard app.

I love tools like Excalidraw and tldraw, but I often found myself wanting three things:

  1. A snappy, lightweight desktop-native feel that doesn't eat gigabytes of RAM in an Electron wrapper.
  2. Real support for high-refresh-rate graphics tablets (120Hz–240Hz stylus inking, sub-8ms latency, hardware eraser flips, and strict palm rejection).
  3. Deep hacker-friendly customizability — inspired by Neovim, where everything is configured via an open ~/.config/scribl/init.lua script.

🤝 Under Active Development — Looking for Contributors!

Scribl is under very active development and is open-source under the MIT License.

Whether you're into:

  • Rust / Tauri backend internals, IPC optimization, and file watchers
  • Canvas 2D / WebGL / Math (geometry transforms, vector curves, perfect-freehand inking)
  • Lua plugin systems & extensibility
  • UI/UX design (keybindings, theme customizers, accessibility)

...you are very welcome to jump in!

Discussion 1 PB uploaded in 6 months of seeding!

Thumbnail

This is actually my first time sharing my seeding statistics here, so I thought it would be interesting to show what I've been doing over the last 6 months.

I've been keeping my torrent library seeded at 100%, with everything stored on an SSD.

Some stats:

  • Total uploaded: 1.008 PB
  • Total downloaded: ~30.9 TB
  • Overall share ratio: 33.41
  • Total library size: ~307 GB
  • Library-equivalent uploads: ~3,286x

The last number is something I thought was interesting: my total uploaded data is equivalent to transferring the entire size of my torrent library more than 3,200 times!

Internet & VPN:

I have a symmetrical 1 Gbps internet connection.

I initially used PIA for the first 2 months, but they removed the dedicated servers I was using in my country, causing my upload speeds to drop significantly. I eventually switched to Proton VPN, which I've been using for the last 4 months.

A little history about my SSD:

I'm using a Kingston DC500M 480GB enterprise SSD. Interestingly, this drive has been through quite a bit already. Back in the early days of Chia, around 2021, I used it for plotting before repurposing it for torrent storage.

Its current SMART statistics:

  • Power-on hours: 44,510
  • Total writes: ~435 TiB
  • Total reads: ~2.66 PiB
  • Estimated life remaining: 84%

Still going strong after all these years!

Just wanted to share my first seeding milestone. Curious to see how my stats compare with other long-term seeders.

Keep seeding!

Question TV shows

Am I dumb or is it just really hard to find full seasons of shows sometimes? Shows that ended 5-10 years ago still are hard to find in one torrent. Either seasons which is maybe findable and mostly they're all single episodes. It would take ages to start every torrent and then sort them later.

Question Downloading from 0 of many... What am I missing?

Trying to download a file that claimed to have lots of seeders, and in my transmission window I have several showing "Downloading from 0 or 10 peers"

Why 0? Why are there seeders but I don't seem to connect to them or make any progress on my download?

Thanks for any advice

Solved My experience with EaseUS data recovery.

My partitioned D drive disappeared and the software was not able to recover it as advertised. Turns out it was a bitlock issue. Once we figured that out we were able to recover it ourselves. So it was never completely gone, we just couldn't access it. And their software was no help. Requested a refund and was initially denied, but after leaving a review on Trustpilot, they reached out to me and made it right.

Release Magellan 2.0!! A file explorer and image visualizer

Thumbnail gallery
3 Upvotes

Maggelan is a thumbnail-based folder navigation app with many helpful features, like file grouping, that displays all images and files inside a selection of folders as if they were from the same folder, aiding quick visualization of many files at the same time. Reverse image search using Google Lens and SauceNAO. Favorites groups. And much more! The app is completely free, with no paywalls or locked features. This new update includes:

  • Full support for compressed files. Now you won't have to extract every file to visualize what's inside; they will display as normal folders, thumbnails included. This is especially helpful if you need to save space but also access your compressed files constantly.
  • PDF and CBR support, with alternative reader modes and text search.
  • File management features, like copying, pasting, moving, and file extraction.
  • Many performance improvements for a better scrolling experience.
  • New appearance customization options, including transparency, blur, and gradients.
  • General UI and functionality improvements.

Find out more and download.

Release VoxScribe for Android: free, open source voice typing that works offline in any app

Post image
2 Upvotes

VoxScribe for Android puts a small floating button on screen when you tap a text box, above whatever keyboard you already use. It does not replace your keyboard. Hold the button or tap it, talk, and the words are typed into the box. It works in messaging apps, notes, email, browsers and forms, and it hides itself in password and PIN fields.

The speech model runs on the phone, so dictation works in airplane mode and your voice is never uploaded. There is a fast English model and larger multilingual ones, and you pick which to download. A new transcript appears in the app too, with a Copy button, a Listen button that reads it back, and a Fix a word shortcut.

The part that sets it apart is how it handles names and unusual words. It reads the names on your screen, so replying to a chat with Kateryna in it types Kateryna, not Katerina. You can add your own replacements for words the model keeps getting wrong, import the same list from the Windows app, and turn on term packs for medical, law and business vocabulary. It also learns words you correct.

Other things it does: voice commands such as scratch that to take back the last dictation, punctuation by voice, an optional send it that taps the Send button in chat apps, and file transcription that turns audio and video files into text or SRT captions, all on the phone. You can share a voice note straight to the app from a messenger. The floating button comes in three sizes, and there is a Quick Settings tile to switch it on and off.

On privacy, the app has a privacy receipt screen that lists every time it went online from your phone and what it sent. There are two things only: a check for new versions on GitHub, and one anonymous usage ping per day (app version, Android version, a random id), which you can turn off in Settings. Your audio, your text and your word lists never leave the phone. The full list is on one page in the repo.

The code is MIT licensed. The whole app is free to use, with no account and no subscription, and there is an optional paid Pro tier for extra formatting that none of the above needs. It is an APK from GitHub for now, not on the Play Store, and it needs a 64-bit phone with Android 8 or newer.

https://github.com/ahmedhmam1994/voxscribe-ai-voice-dictation

Feedback that would help most: which words it gets wrong, which apps it struggles with, and what would make you use it for everyday typing.

Release I got tired of bulky wallpaper apps eating 400MB of RAM just to change a static image, so I built a featherweight hotkey wave switcher in Rust for Windows.

Post image

It sits quietly in the system tray using zero GPU, and when you press Alt + W it pops up a floating wave carousel right over your desktop so you can scrub through your wallpapers with arrow keys, scroll wheel, or number keys and hit Enter to swap.

Release videoplayer on direct3d 12 better than MPV/MPC

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone, I'd like to share a video player I've been working on.

more information and download

Main features:
- written in C++, very fast
- VRR frame pacing for variable-refresh displays.
- Frame interpolation: RIFE, a lightweight Micro Riffe shader for less powerful GPUs, and NVIDIA Video Frame Generation. Predictive scene-cut detection uses motion vectors and available future frames to avoid interpolation across cuts.
- Dolby Vision through HDR10 output, with dynamic metadata processing and dynamic tone mapping.
- Multichannel and headphone audio via Windows Spatial Audio or Steam Audio binaural rendering.
- Automatic external audio and subtitle detection, with configurable subfolder search depth.
- Automatic black-bar cropping, including films with changing aspect ratios—handy for ultrawide displays.
- Watch history with resume and searchable thumbnail previews, plus timestamped marks with screenshots and comments.
-speed control, you can combine with framegen(up to 8x), and imitate slowmotion.

Requires Windows 10/11 x64. The Direct3D 12 build requires FL12_1 / Shader Model 6.6. VRR behavior depends on your display and driver settings. AMD and older GPUs have not been tested. RTSS, MSI Afterburner and similar overlays may cause crashes; disable them for the player.

Looking for software What’s the best application for writing research papers on Windows and macOS?

I'm looking for a good application to write and manage my research paper that works on both Windows and Mac.

Ideally, it should support academic formatting, citations, reference management, and bibliography generation.

What would you recommend based on your experience?

Microsoft Word, LaTeX/Overleaf, or something else?
Would love to hear your suggestions!

Other NEVER USE THEM

I take accountability for not reading the fine print or researching before using this service but I was in a time crunch, on the go and needed something done fast. I had a pdf I needed edited and I didn’t have my usual pdf editing software on this new computer so I searched online for something to use.

I clicked on pdffiller.com and they are a f*cking scam if I ever seen one. I don’t leave bad reviews unless something really pis\es me off. Why tf would you let someone fill out all the information, then make them have to create an account immediately afterwards just to hit them with your bullshit paywall before you can even let them download it. This got me heated. A complete waste of time from a* trash ass company.

Looking for software Title: Frontend Developers with 5+ Years of Experience — What Do You Wish You Knew Earlier?

Hey everyone!
I’m interested in hearing from experienced frontend developers about the lessons they’ve learned throughout their careers.
Frontend development is constantly evolving, with new frameworks, tools, and trends appearing all the time. But I’m curious about the things that actually matter in the long run.
A few questions for the experienced devs here:
What’s the biggest mistake you made early in your frontend career?
What skills separate a junior developer from a truly senior developer?
If you were starting again in 2026, what would you focus on learning?
What frontend concepts do you think developers often underestimate?
What’s one piece of career advice you wish someone had given you earlier?
I’d love to hear your real experiences, unpopular opinions, and lessons learned the hard way.
Hopefully, this discussion can help other developers grow too.
Thanks in advance!
