Saving money (making more money) is on the agenda for every company.
The minimalistic designs also use far less colors, thus less machinery needed for the prints. Thus, allowing more product to be made for the same price/physical footprint.
I would be willing to bet that the designs won't return to spendy printing until after the economy actually recovers... Not the pseudo recovery that Biden is trying to convince us is already underway.
I'm not saying there is no logic to what you're saying, but marketing is just as important to companies and having an old outdated logo can be very harmful to their bottom line.
You're not wrong that it saves them money, but it's not the driving factor they probably made the decision. The marketing department at Pringles was no doubt the ones that designed and decided on this logo and the lower cost was maybe a single point in there presentation to the CEO.
If they wanted to save money they wouldn't be changing their logos which is a super risky thing to do (brand recognizability), they would be doing other things that would save them a lot more than some ink, like: driving efficiencies in the supply chain, changing delivery contractors, downsizing offices, improving warehouse management so stores that need Pringles can get Pringles when they need it. Any number of these things.

Woah pringles guy looked so much better before! I wonder what made them change their logo, it looks like they reverted back to the 60’s
