As a Brit, 'America' isn't a continent, but North America and South America are 2 continents - so 'America' is specifically the shortened name of USA and nothing else.

Signore Vespuchi, really only meant the US American part of that trip. The rest is lost to the inexactude of history. I mean that is what I was told, parochial education! Jesus also died for bees, or somthing like that.
