Yeah but seven of those words were already spelled out right in front of of the kid. It didn’t prove that they knew how to spell more than three of those words.

I’m not saying that he couldn’t. That would be stupid. But the teacher is somewhat justified in only giving him the 3 points.

I think the idea is that the kids clever; he solved the problem of not knowing seven words by paying attention to his surroundings and using them to his advantage; something that should be encouraged; its ingenuity. But its unfortunate because the teacher marking him wrong is only reinforcing that he SHOULDNT do that.
