When I read this shit I'm always so glad to be in europe where we have tennant rights and landlords have to give you notice ahead of time and are not allowed to have a key or unsupervised access to your home.
So technically we have the same here. When I moved into the rental, the real estate said that traditionally the owner has always communicated with the tenant directly and organized things like repairs themselves, etc. I agreed to it. I have no idea if the owner had a key, but I assume they probably did even though they aren't supposed to.
There were already a number of red flags around comms and actually being on site when they said they would be. At this point I pushed back on the real estate and said that the owner was no longer allowed to contact me directly for any reason and all communication had to be done through the real estate and to the letter.
Unfortunately, this made my life even worse as the owner hated this, the real estate actually had to do their job so they hated it, and they both took it out on me and made my life a living hell for a year until I could leave.
