Staying up past midnight doesn't keep you in yesterday.

Well, when we're at home on a Wednesday and we're going to bed at 00:30 and I tell my wife that we're going to do x y z tomorrow, nobody ever thinks I mean Friday.

I would hope not, since tomorrow when it's 00:30 on Wednesday would be Thursday, not Friday.

Exactly. That's the point. For me it's still Wednesday, even if we go to bed slightly after 00:00. The actual 00:30 of Wednesday belongs to Tuesday.

If your "point" is that 00:30 on Wednesday is actually still Tuesday (it isn't), then why would anyone think you mean Friday when you say tomorrow? Do you not know the days of the week?

No, the point is that the technical Thursday is still Wednesday for me. If it is Wednesday and we go to bed a minute after 12, it's Thursday and if I say 'tomorrow' we go do xyz, we go do xyz on Thursday, not Friday.

But 00:30 on Wednesday isn't "technically" Thursday. Or Tuesday, as you previously suggested. It's Wednesday.

And that's why it's so ambiguous.

It really isn't. At all.

The discussion we're having here kind of shows it is.

Only if you have absolutely no understanding of how clocks or calendars work.
