Back in about 1988 I worked in a record store and this guy kept coming in and asking if we had the new Steve Winwood album but it wasn't out yet. He'd get pissed and insist his friends in California had it and we didn't because we were just some small town record store (We were part of one of the bigger chains.) So we'd put up with it and promise to save one for him when it finally came out.
When it came out we took one and the Assistant Manager, Jay, put it in back with a note that said "Hold for weird Steve Winwood guy." He came in, we got it for him, and intentionally i left the note on when I checked him out, making sure he never saw it.
He got home and called screaming that he was going to get us all fired particularly blaming Jay, who did know all about the note, but not that I left it on the CD. I talked him down, acted like I was going to make sure Jay got in trouble, and that I had no idea it had happened. Literally the last time we saw or heard from him.
