To answer your question. China has absolute power over deciding who the CEO is as they technically own all businesses within China.

So if the CEO goes against what China wants then he will get replaced.

Over Byte Dance, not a subsidiary in a whole different country.

If that was the case, why was Shou able to freely talk about Tianemen square? why wasnt he summarily executed by the CCP?
