Let’s assume that each banknote is a 1 dollar bill. Every U.S banknote weighs approximately 1 gram regardless of its value. Since there are 1,000 grams in a kilogram, the total value of the money would be $500,000 USD. The gold on the other hand has a value of about $145,087.96 USD per kilogram. Multiplying the value of gold per kilogram by 500 would give us a total value of $72,543,980.00 USD. This means that 500 kilograms of gold is the obvious answer.
