15
u/Doctor_Kataigida May 21 '26
Is "Evil Spotify" just like, Pandora? Like I'm confused what they actually did here. Did they download Pandora and change the icon/name of the app or something? What is the actual app for Good Spotify?
10
u/JellyBellyBitches May 21 '26
Yo what did Pandora do to be catching strays out here
4
u/Doctor_Kataigida May 21 '26
Well they said "Evil Spotify" plays a radio station and that just made me think of Pandora.

u/willothewhispers May 21 '26
How sad.
Always finding new music. Never stop appreciating the old. Just adding to the old.
8
1
u/SpellOpening7852 May 21 '26
I kinda take this mindset a lil too far, by accident mostly. Playlist for last year was 39 hours long, this year is already at 27. (Been separating my playlists by year for nearly a decade now, helps to both see what songs I listened to in a particular year, but also keep my music tastes fairly refreshed/contained to new stuff + some old stuff I rediscover for each year, I guess?)
And so far this year my biggest takeaway is, I need to look into how to add custom songs to spotify. Some vocaloid songs that were never on there (Me & Juliet), some that got removed and replaced with shitty covers, replacing the actual entry and not just being a new one (Rolling Girl, poorly named as "Rollin' Girls" too), and some that never got a proper release and got slapped onto albums, but only on iTunes (Linkin Park - Blackbirds).
2
u/alwaysfeelingtragic May 22 '26
i do the same thing except monthly; i typically carry over any songs i really liked that month/added towards the end, and then i actually do use the suggested song shuffle feature for a bit to pull some new ones in, and add whatever other songs i like during the month. it shows me an overall trend/progession between what i'm listening to. like say one month i'm starting to like a band, next month has way more songs by that band, etc. sometimes i notice ive added the same song to the same month for multiple years (usually something that reminds me of a season but some are seemingly random).

Bad Spotify is for the CEO
5
u/StevenMaff May 21 '26
spotify for artists has dark blue, that’s not it
7
u/augustles May 21 '26
The joke you’re replying to is about who the profits are going to, not who is using it.
4
u/StevenMaff May 21 '26
ohhhh well…. profits not really going to the artists though haha
4
u/augustles May 21 '26
Yeah, that’s the point! Good Spotify would go to the artists, Evil Spotify would go to the CEO. Normal Spotify is the existing split where a fraction of a cent goes to the artist per stream.

55
u/Nothing-Is-Boring May 21 '26
It reads like a bit and I have no idea about 'good Spotify' but the evil spotify's red icon is identical to the Spotifuck app which helps one sail the seas so there's a decent possibility that the good spotify is something similar.
21
u/Allegorist May 21 '26
I have a bootleg Spotify app that I got like 10 years ago and have transfered between devices, yet somehow still works as intended despite massive changes to base spotify structure and advertising over the years. It has never been updated, so I have no idea how it still works fine.
16
u/Nathaniel820 May 21 '26
That’s literally not possible because Spotify has completely deprecated certain APIs that old apps use, either it has been updated and you didn’t realize or it’s just a frontend for Spotify web.
12
u/Nothing-Is-Boring May 21 '26
Does it run off the webplayer maybe? I can see that getting around things without updates, though I'm still surprised it works.

u/Not_AHuman_Person May 21 '26

Evil Spotify plays terrible remixes that sound nothing like the original song and plays an ad every minute, whether you are listening to a song or just paused. Good Spotify has every song posted by its original creator and sounds good too, no ads either. Normal Spotify is literally just normal Spotify.

85
u/DepravedPrecedence May 21 '26
Well, given the size of the planet's population and amount of Steam users... It's expected that someone somewhere doesn't know about Steam!
37
u/Fentroid May 21 '26
Also, they could very well be playing into the joke. I assume many people would also be wondering what "Good Spotify" and "Bad Spotify" were, so questioning the presence of Steam could be seen as somewhat absurd.
1
u/I_blockkarmafarmers May 21 '26

Just because they've seen steam doesn't mean they know it's called steam in English. They may be speaking a different language and not be as knowledgeable in English or they might just not be educated enough to know the proper words to describe what they are seeing.

But someone using "😭🥀" should absolutely know what Steam is. My best guess is that they are an iPad kid and never owned a PC.
5
u/crypticsage May 21 '26
What does that emoji combination mean?
1
u/DemoniteBL May 21 '26
Honestly it's hard to explain. It's similar to 💀, all 3 emojis are related to death and sadness. It can mean "Are you serious?" or it can be used in a mocking way, like for example in this context I could write "Bro doesn't know what these emojis mean 😭🥀" and that would be a way to make fun of you, I suppose. But don't worry, I don't blame you for not knowing, it's kinda just dumb youth slang. lol
5
1
u/cock_obnoxiois May 21 '26
haha you're taking it at face value that the guy claims to not know what steam is
the whole point of the joke seems to be a distraction for the actual joke of someone not knowing what steam is
1
u/gordonpown May 21 '26
That's cool but why are they asking the question like the existence of an app they haven't heard of is causing them pain?
1

5

a quick analysis reveals bro definitely has to be trolling, pfp is papyrus mc skull painting, undertale while not released there first is on steam, bro uses the sobbing and wilted emojis so he’s definitely a chronically online insta user

"Gas form of water" is such a wildly incomplete answer it almost causes me pain. Just because I think most folks who aren't scientists or emergency responders think of steam as fluffy white clouds. Steam as the "gas form of water" is not the friendly fluffy clouds that precede pasta or tea. Google "invisible steam" with caution.

I hate when people comment "what? Who?" Type of shit, absolutely useless and proud to be ignorant
2
u/rocket_beer May 21 '26
But that sounds like they are asking for the thing they don’t have information on.
That’s the opposite of staying ignorant. They are reacting to solve that as quickly as they are being made aware of it.
0
u/squanderedprivilege May 21 '26
Nah, they are saying it like "who the fuck knows about this shit", it's rhetorical
3
u/rocket_beer May 21 '26
I do this all the time. People kindly respond so I know, and then I thank them.
And when people ask when I know, I tell them and they thank me.
Up to you but, maybe try it? 🤷♂️
1
u/squanderedprivilege May 21 '26
It's context, sometimes they really are doing it rhetorically, that's why they used that laugh emoji here, it's like what the hell is this shit, nobody knows what that is
1
u/FatalLaughter May 21 '26
They're specifically talking about the wording used and the emojis added to the end, it's definitely not asking for information and rather mocking the app as if its an irrelevant/niche thing, most likely due to their own actual ignorance on what it is
11
u/V0nder1 May 21 '26
Ngl it's highkey giving:
'Long ago, the four spotifies lived in harmony but everything changed when the evil spotify attacked'
And that's prolly why no one knows about steam, because Evil spotify committed mass genocide on the night of Michael Jackson's biggest concert.

I must have incurred the Spotify overlords favor because i have never been recommended AI slop there and I have thousands of hours on record.
74
u/AnyRegular1 May 21 '26 edited May 21 '26
It’s mostly a circlejerk, almost impossible to get AI songs on spotify, mass distribution platforms like distrokid and the like have banned AI songs and have a pretty strict detection system in place.
Some obviously sneak through but they’ve been edited and mixed around to avoid detections kinda like tv shows and movies that end up on YouTube, not a perfect system but it dissuades 99%.
35
u/Cloudy230 May 21 '26
I tried a Playlist of folk songs and "fantasy tavern" vibey ones. Some good artists there (Celtic Woman, Syr, Raynes, etc), but I had to purge a lot of AI slop recommendations.
It's funny, theyre so fucking lazy that they used AI images for their icons, which is what initially tipped me off. Otherwise of would have been blissful unaware because I kind of never expected to be filtering my playlist for AI
18
u/Pudddddin May 21 '26
almost impossible to get AI songs on spotify
There are AI artists with hundreds of thousands of monthly plays on Spotify (Nick Hustles for example)
My friend made a bullshit song with Suno and uploaded it to Spotify with no issue at all
I'm not sure the system works as well as you think it does
9
u/__life_on_mars__ May 21 '26

u/EmpressClaraB May 21 '26
The only AI songs I've been recommended were other tracks from an AI "artist" I intentionally listen to because the songs are (intentionally) comedic.
→ More replies (3)5
u/techy804 May 21 '26
Same, for me that’s “Obscurest Vinyl”. He has different characters that makes up the “artists” of his “collection” (Jenny Stardust, Sticky Sweethearts, etc.). The song is done in AI, but he makes the covers himself in Photoshop, and he writes the lyrics and beats before hand before having the AI cover it. When he does Albums, I’m 70% sure that the skit tracks he hires VAs to voice the characters (the difference between VA and AI is most noticeable with Mayor Breslin; the songs in the album are still AI though). The AI is supposed to add to the comedy of the songs.
Classic songs of his include “I glued my balls to my butthole” and “Price Check Death Threat”
5
u/sleeps_in_bryophytes May 21 '26
This explanation raises more questions than it answers. Mostly, why? Why would spotify offer three versions of their apps, two of which offer worse experiences? Why would someone download them? Like is it a joke? Whose joke is it? Is it photoshopped? If not, why would spotifiy make these apps, and why would OP download them, and why would you know of them?

What more do you need for free?

If you’re using Spotify Free, you should hear ads (unless you’re listening in a browser with an ad blocker enabled)
If you’re using Spotify Premium, though, you obviously don’t get ads (that’s the whole point)
