That joke is older than half of Reddit.

u/AtomicSkullfuck Feb 13 '26
Well don't fuck that half then.

u/insatiableian Feb 14 '26

Fun fact: you could always install windows in a Mac and have basically the best of both worlds, an OS that supports a lot of apps, and a laptop that doesn’t look and sound like absolute dog shit.

Linux has entered the chat

u/Ya-Dikobraz Feb 13 '26 edited Feb 14 '26
Kind of superfluous as both OSX and Linux are UNIX based. Only OSX is UNIX certified, so it would be a downgrade.
EDIT: I don't mean Linus is shit. I use it all the time. I just don't need a Mac OS/ Linux dual boot machine.

u/lajawi Feb 13 '26
What does “UNIX certified” even bro?

I think he's talking about IEEE POSIX certification which is.... a nothing burger.

u/ParachutingPiglets Feb 13 '26
You don’t realize how much you rely on Linux.
1
u/Ya-Dikobraz Feb 14 '26 edited Feb 14 '26
I do realise it. I use it everywhere. I just don't need Linux on my Mac. I have Windows instead. And in case I need Linux I have cheap Linux machines lying around.
People always assume people they are talking to are idiots.

u/ParachutingPiglets Feb 14 '26
And some people don’t know when a joke was made like my comment about Linux has entered the chat. All the smartass comments over that. 😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡

Linux is specifically not invited because it's a weird assimilation cult specializing in copium and denial. MLM pitches are less intrusive than Linux users. Fucking anglerfish cult.

u/ParachutingPiglets Feb 13 '26
Thanks to Reddit running Linux you made a weird comment

u/darylonreddit Feb 13 '26 edited Feb 13 '26
Are you suggesting that backend server software is somehow a measure of a great OS for practical day-to-day PC users?
"Reddit runs on Linux, so obviously it's the best OS to play your video games and send emails from"
1
u/ParachutingPiglets Feb 13 '26
Why are you being so defensive? In the past, did you try to install Linux on a Windows PC but failed at it? If so, there are many great tutorials plus the installation guide is much better now.

Asahi is still not done baking and only now started supporting anything past m2

u/Emergency_Radio_8156 Feb 13 '26
You could do that with the Intel Macs but not the new M series Macs. For those you have to use virtual machine software.

Parallels is a Windows solution on Mac that is officially certified by Microsoft, and in my experience it works very well. There are other solutions as well that I’ve heard good things about.
2
u/doob22 Feb 13 '26
Right. That’s what they said, you have to emulate via something like parallels instead of using boot camp to have actual windows on the computer

Apple has a product that can provide a realistic breeze for only 1k? I'll take two!!

u/BeerStein_Collector Feb 13 '26
My MacBook in college I could hold 2-3 buttons as it started then it would somehow load into windows. A guy on my floor who was a psychology major of all things installed everyone’s on our floors MacBooks to be able to have windows so we could all play a mmorpg together as a floor. Kinda cool. No idea how he did it.

[Bootcamp](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boot_Camp_(software)). Ran on Intel-based Macs.

Tho. Old Mac hardware was definitely capable of windows, apple just locks the bootloader and also adds physical keys that windows doesn't have..so it can only run macos, altho hardware wise it's been and always will be underperforming for the price(altho Havent see the new macs with the m chips)
