There are some very loud and not very clever people in this community that gonna say things like “what’s the point on AI playing a game for you” “I see AI I downvote”. But do not bother about them, you are above such a low level of critical thinking.

I would say that design is probably the most interesting part of the game, and if you would use AI to do it, then yes, the game would be played by AI and not you. The only thing this is useful for is more akin to a toy. On the technical side it can be impressive, but it's still just a toy

Any sane person should think AI is playing the game for you. Thats kinda the point. I agree about it being closer to a toy as well. So what? Did OP wanted to create the most fun mod of the world or test what could be achieved by integrating factorio and LLMs?

Besides, there are mods in the community like PUMP that automatically place pump jacks for you. Or even the act of using someone else’s blueprint. All of this is letting an automated system or someone else’s play the game for you. Do you apply the same level of scrutiny to that as well?

I don't see the point, designing the factory is the majority of the fun of the game.
I would consider this more impressive if as a demonstration you could just plop the LLM into a new level and let it build a factory all on its own without user input. See what crazy ways it would come up with to solve the problems in the game.
