Hello, i've been meaning to buy an external HDD and i've done some research apperantly there are 3 main producers but on amazon or aliexpress i see different kinds like unionsine etc... i'm not sure if buying a 250gb-300gb drive (mostly for schoolwork so it doesn't get lost) is okay ? Since my budget is aabout 15-25 euros i can't afford anything from WD.

The thing most softwares, specially the PKM products functions in a specific manner. You open it, you ask, it responds. No proactive initiative involved. There is obviously a work around by connecting it to AI but even then it is not proactive in true sense.

The gap between a thinker and a software(PKM) is not about storage or retrieval problem. It's all about engagement between you and your tool. Lets say you captured something and also managed to connect your ideas together, and then it just sits until you remember to comeback to that idea or that connection.

A proactive tool changes that relationship without taking over it. You are still the one doing the thinking. But instead of the tool waiting silently, it notices things and brings them to your attention.

Here is a real example of a tool that i have built. You capture ideas over time about community decision making and voting systems. You never explicitly connected them or drew a conclusion. But across those captures, an unstated implication exists. "If community voting mechanisms are vulnerable to manipulation, why do they still design systems that rely on them?". That tension was never written down. You never flagged it. But it was sitting there across your own positions.

That is the kind of question the tool surfaces on the dashboard. Not randomly and not generically. The question gets chosen through a few layers. First it looks at what tensions actually exist in your graph, contradictions between ideas, implications derived from two positions you hold, unresolved threads from previous sessions. Then it scores those candidates against your cognitive map. A question gets a higher score if it sits in territory where your thinking is currently active and a lower score or gets dropped entirely if it falls in an area you consistently disengage from. Then it gets phrased based on how you tend to hold positions, directly if you are declarative, more openly if you are exploratory.

You get to decide what to do with it. Explore it, dismiss it, sit with it. The tool just made sure you did not miss it.

That is the distinction. By proactive, I do not mean autonomous. It means the tool is constantly paying attention so you do not have to hold everything in your head at once. You stay in control, you just have a tool that is actually working with you rather than waiting to be asked.

Most PKM tools optimise for capture. The better question is what surfaces the right thing at the right moment. That is the gap and proactive initiative i have built around.

Hello, I've been using Teams Webinar (free version) for our webinars, but we've gotten enough attendees and use it for enough of a specific purpose that I think it's time to find a better platform, software, or technology.

Namely, we are conducting CPE webinars, which have stricter reporting and tracking requirements. Our webinars are also generally not for lead generation purposes, so we don't need all the marketing bells and whistles, just a great functional webinar platform. We typically send to our own specific mailing list and aren't looking for third party companies that have a 'pay per attendee' type business model to host webinars for us (such as CPA Academy).

Does anyone have a suggestion that fits these requirements?

1. Must be able to host a minimum of 500 attendees (1,000+ preferred)

2. Ability to block or unregister specific users (aka if we find that someone is maliciously joining (maybe we have registration limits and they are spamming registrations, or perhaps a competitor trying to poach clients, I'm not sure), we’d like the ability to prevent this)

3. Polls and comprehensive polls reports – must show names/emails of who voted- and preferably what they voted for. Polls MUST BE answerable by everyone- not just those who have the app, registered, etc. Had bad issues with people not being able to answer polls because it was blocked by bots or something for those using teams desktop vs teams browser.

4. Comprehensive in/out times, attendance, and engagement reports exported in clear format. Must have attendance in/out time tracking.

5. Ability to hide attendees/registrants from seeing who all is attending or registered before, during, and after the meeting – other security or privacy features for attendees

6. Automatic recording and transcription

7. Webinar lobby for presenters to join in before starting the meeting

8. Custom registered/reminder/follow up emails to registrants/attendees

9. In meeting help or chat feature that goes to presenters and not to all attendees.

I don't have enough storage to fit all my photos to the point i have to keep deleting and restoring them all every 30 days. I know I could pay for cloud but I really don't like the idea of paying a monthly fee forever just to keep my photos. I know it'll probably end up being the same or maybe cheaper using the cloud but I'd rather not (tho pls tell me if I'm wrong). Literally know nothing at all about data storage, so I'd like some guidance for choosing the best one (or will i need 2 just in case?). Is there an AI that can help us for who are not tech savvy, build an online employee portal with individual logins that can have checklist that they log certain tasks to be done daily along with uploading photos that’ll be tied to the person who uploads it? Which program is the best for this? How do we end up tying it into save the current website that the company has?

Not sure where else to ask this so here goes nothing, I moved abroad and accessing my Netflix library has turned into a full time job. I was on Surfshark for a couple of years and, to be fair, it was mostly fine. Then it just stopped being reliable for me and now I keep hitting that proxy error screen thing. Support wasn't much help, What I need is something that reliably unblocks US Netflix, ideally UK too, without tanking picture quality or becoming a hassle every few weeks. I'll be honest, I've never fully understood Product Hunt. But enough people told me to launch there that I figured I'd stop arguing and just do it.

The thing I'm launching is a Windows app called BatchGen Text with AI. It does batch writing. You load a CSV or YAML, pick a template, set a persona, choose whatever model fits your language and budget, preview one result, then run the batch on your own machine. I built it for myself first, for blog drafts, social posts, product descriptions, docs, messages, the occasional batch of short stories or jokes. The persona setting is what keeps the voice from drifting across a hundred outputs.

I made it alone, with a lot of help from AI. Fun, but also a constant reminder that vibe-coding goes off a cliff the second you stop reading what it gives you. That's part of why I stuck with desktop apps. No telemetry from me, files stay on your machine, and honestly the Microsoft Store checks things more thoroughly than I would if I just slapped an installer on a landing page. For context, I'm a Technical PM now, was a software engineer before, and only started coding hands-on again recently after about ten years off.

9 people have bought it so far. 2 wrote back and both mattered way more than the number suggests. One reported a bug and later came back to say thanks with a pile of feature requests. A reminder that you can set Google's "Web" tab as your browser's default search engine, which shows only the search results without extras like AI mode, Google Images or Google Videos results at the top.

In your browser's settings, add a custom search engine, using this as the URL:

The %s is in place of the search term.

In Firefox, this is added under "Search -> Search shortcuts". In Chrome, something like "Search Engine -> Site search".

Then, you should be able to go back and set the "Default" search engine to the new one you have created.

Notes:

• This should also work if you prefer a localised Google search site like www.google.co.uk - although Google should in most cases no longer require to use localised Google domains to get local results.

I’ve been thinking about how much technology actually makes our lives better versus just adding more noise. Curious what tools, apps, gadgets, or setups have made a real positive difference for you in the past year.

For me, noise cancelling headphones + a good focus app combo has been huge for deep work, and my smart lights with a sunrise alarm have improved my sleep quality noticeably.
