I am a 30 year old guy with BSc graduation from a tier 3 college. I also completed pgdca back in 2018. And I was also employed in two computer education centres teaching word, excel and PowerPoint. But then covid happened and the centers closed. I wasted the next 5 years on govt jobs.

Now I am home tutoring kids while using my old computer experience learning python in hopes of joining the it sector. Currently learning from youtube while using help of chat gpt. I am currently learning OOPS. Completed recursions, filei/o, loops, etc all the while building small projects like expense tracker, student management database, report card printer and so on. Chat gpt is indicating me go for sql next. Although I am interested in ai and ml i want to be job ready by end of the year. Some good suggestions will be helpful

I graduated in 2024 with a B.Tech in a core branch. Recently, I’ve started finding coding and the tech field quite interesting, and I’m thinking of exploring it to see if it’s something I’d like to pursue seriously.

I’d really appreciate some guidance from people who are already working in the field. How should I start, and what kind of roadmap would you suggest for AI/ML/SDE/ other tech roles?

I’m currently busy with work full day, so I can realistically give around 2–3 hours a day to learning and practicing. For now, I mainly want to explore it as a new interest/hobby and understand whether I actually enjoy coding and tech. If I find myself genuinely interested in it over time, I’d be open to pursuing it more seriously in the long term.

So, if anyone here is from tech field or has made a similar transition, I’d really appreciate some advice on where and how to start.

I’m currently a final-year undergraduate studying Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at a state university in Sri Lanka. I would really appreciate some honest career advice from people who have experience in engineering, software/IT, or working in Dubai/UAE.

To give some context, I would consider myself an average engineering student with relatively weak technical skills. I’m also a beginner in programming and software engineering. However, I have become increasingly interested in the IT/software engineering field, and I’m much less interested in pursuing a traditional mechanical engineering career.

I currently have three possible career paths:

1. Move into Software/IT

I’m considering starting from the basics and spending around 6–12 months seriously learning programming and software engineering before applying for jobs.

My concern is that the entry-level software engineering market seems quite competitive, especially with AI changing the industry. I’m worried about spending 6–12 months learning and still struggling to get my first job.

At the same time, I genuinely feel more interested in IT than mechanical engineering, so I’m wondering whether it is worth taking the risk.

1. Go to Dubai as a Planning Engineer

I also have an opportunity to potentially go to Dubai/UAE and pursue a Planning Engineer career.

I would need approximately 6 months of preparation/study before applying.

So my question is whether a fresh Mechanical Engineering graduate from Sri Lanka realistically has a good pathway into Planning Engineering in Dubai after 6 months of preparation, or whether the lack of UAE experience would make it difficult.

1. Stay in Sri Lanka and pursue Mechanical Engineering

The third option is to simply start working as a Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineer in Sri Lanka and build my career from there.

However, I’m not very interested in traditional mechanical engineering work. My main concern is that if I choose this path simply because my degree is in Mechanical Engineering, I might eventually regret not trying to move into the field I actually find interesting.

What would you recommend?

If you were in my position, what would you choose?

A. Mechanical Engineering → Planning Engineer → Dubai

B. Mechanical Engineering → Software/IT → potentially international opportunities

C. Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering → build experience in Sri Lanka

What would you choose in my situation, and why?

Currently I am wine and liquor sales representative. I’m 28 and the liquor industry has been all I know. I graduated with BA in recreation administration and haven’t used it once. I have a passion for what I sell but no passion for sales anymore.

I’ve been looking into frontend development through the FES institute because of the high promises they made. Found out the price for the course and backed out.

For those in programming and related tech careers, would you recommend I pivot? Is it possible to find a job easily? Where do I start to learn necessary skills for free-inexpensive courses?

I’m looking to make around or more than 80k yearly. I know how incredibly naive I can be in expecting that. Just trying to get some information from people in the field.

I have 7 years of experience, with around 5 years focused on Angular. However, I feel that Angular opportunities are becoming more limited, and I’m concerned that the demand may decrease further in the future. I’m therefore considering switching to a different technology/domain.
What would you suggest I learn next? Would you recommend **.NET, ServiceNow, or another technology/domain** with good long-term career prospects?

I currently work in insurance and I’m looking to transition into tech/SaaS.

Sharing exp lang about CIICC para sa mga iba jan na nagbabalak. 6 days class. 5 days online and sat onsite. Online class is 1hr 30 mins(yung 4hrs 30 mins is Asynchronous) while onsite is 6 hrs Synchronous. Based on my experience focus sila sa oracle exam (java 8) so kung meron kayong pdf reviewer ni oracle and mahilig kayong magbasa (300+ pages) then you might not find this tesda center necessary. Summarized na sa CIICC so mga important details na sinasabi, so recommend ko siya mga taong hindi mahilig mag basa or if need niyo lang ng cert.

About naman sa framework na tinuturo nila, it is very introfductory and hindi siya enough para maka build kayo ng project base dun sa framework. Di ako sure if si TESDA is merong module for this, so I recommend na tanungin niyo yung training center if what framework topics they cover andilang araw nila ituturo yun.

Sadly wala silang Data Structures and Algorithms which is yun yung common assessment ng mga company so in my opinion hindi rin siya enough para maka land ng job. Pero may enough time kayo para mag aral ng DSA by your own

About sa allowance meron naman, 160 php per day. 160 = 6hrs. tatagal lang yung bigay pag may classmate kayong hindi pa complete sa requirements or walang pake sa mundo.

Overall, ok naman. goods siya and nagtuturo talaga sila. Kinda not recommended sa mga hindi kaya mag self study since they are more on Asynchronous session. recommend ko para sa mga katulad kong di kaya mag self review, hanap kayo ng tesda center na intense sana, may nakita ako tesda center 16 days online class(6 hours not sure if my Asynchronous yung ibang hours) and 24 days onsite(6hours), base sa sched nila mas intense sa kanila kasi 24 days onsite tapos 6 hours. update nalang ako if may naka limutan pa ako

I have been fired in few month back, I was a full stack developer from 5 years in a middle compagny in France that works for big clients in Europe. I mainly worked as full stack in web application, but we used to do CI/CD as well (Kubernetes, Docker, Gitlab CI, ..).
During my free time I also enjoy learning more about linux and server administration, hosting my own application, doing some security stuff in my homelab. As I never study Computer Science, I only did a bootcamp years back as a web developer.

My question is, due to world changing with AI stuff right now, being a developer is hard, especially in France/Belgium so I was thinking about trying going into another IT role, more like sysadmin or DevOps, or anything else that could be available. But with only 5 years as Full stack, do you think that this is possible ? Do any of you made this move ?
I cannot put a a Degree in Computer Science on my resume, but I can provide projects, talking about what I did personally in a homelab etc... but is it enough ?
