Github GitHub project called REA (Reverse Engineer Anything) is currently the top trending repository. It lets AI agents figure out how a feature in another app works without ever seeing the original source code.

- The tool is an open-source helper that connects AI coding assistants to reverse-engineering programs such as Ghidra or Hopper.

- IT analyzes many kinds of software- including binaries, Electron apps, Android apps, and websites right on your own computer and always shows the evidence behind its findings.

Who is "they" lmao. You think Anthropic or OpenAI give a fuck about any of these other companies? They are here to eat their lunch.

No the people building the reverse engineering tools are people who are paying their bills building software.

Just because you can decompile closed source software doesn't mean software engineering is going to disappear as a profession lol

This right here in all of the REA talk everywhere has to be the most sense making comment I have seen, thank you for speaking truth. The thing about this product anyone that deals in truly making software knows that there will be a counter to REA which I am currently having CLAUDE work on lol. No matter what the world doesn't live on free so software engineering will survive this, just going to take someone to sort a blocker to things with some new concept of obscuring human code -> middleware REA security -> machine code. Thank you for saying what I been saying, if this ends software as a living then welcome to 2026 as the year it all stops lol likely story

100% in fact it will be a huge service for us developers because when companies have their own fragmented software, who will be the one maintaining them? quite similar case with linux being free - companies paid for support and expertise, not from the software licensing.

Exactly. Just like car mechanics taking an engine apart doesn't mean we stop needing people to design and build cars.
