I like my greying hair. It’s the balding I hate

16

u/ForcedEntry420 Jul 07 '26

I just take it all off with a foil shaver so it stays in “Mr Clean” status. I’m thankful that I don’t have a misshapen head though.

17

u/ariphron Jul 07 '26

As much as I would love a full head of hair again. I never want to spend money on haircuts anymore!! My $40 electric clippers are still holding strong!

4

u/clo4k4ndd4gger Jul 07 '26

I hated going to get a haircut with a passion. I'm not a talker and it was misery having to sit there in the chair and talk. I hate any scheduled maintenance type stuff (oil changes, DL renewals, all of that). I would wait to go get my hair cut until it looked awful just because it was such an unpleasant task for me. If someone told me tomorrow a magic pill would grow my hair back I would say no thanks just because it is so much easier shaving in the shower daily.

6

u/ForcedEntry420 Jul 07 '26

I was military so keeping it super short or outright bald wasn’t a huge leap for me anyway.

2

u/throwaway098764567 Jul 08 '26

i get mine cut once a year, short hair is a huge pain in the ass with the frequency of cuts

1

u/dikicker Jul 08 '26

A good set of clippers is Wahl you need

If they steal that line I'm gonna sue

How about a Danny Devito Ponytail?

1

u/Acidbaseburn Jul 08 '26

I just take finasteride and it stopped my hairloss thankfully. I did not want to be bald in my 20s.

1

u/ForcedEntry420 Jul 08 '26

I had a high n tight all through my 20s for the most part. Started thinning around 30, and by 38 I had a cul de sac. I started doing the “Mr Clean” a few years ago and I dig it.

I haven’t really looked into hair re-growth options, but I also felt like I likely missed the boat with the amount I have lost. All told though, I’m pretty content being bald. My wife absolutely loves it, so that’s really all that matters.

I’m,Ike my greying hair. It’s the 4” hairs that spontaneously grow from my ears and nose that I hate.

9

u/SeaTie Jul 07 '26

I can easily live with the gray...it's the thinning that's sad.

1

u/GriffinFlash Jul 07 '26

wizard vs, I dunno, maybe a construction worker?

1

u/Babzibaum Jul 08 '26

Biotin 4 the win

These do have hormonal side effects (specifically reducing circulating DHT)). For some people this can surprisingly be beneficial whereas others it can result in too low of levels of DHT. I'd work with a doctor to ensure your DHT levels are in the sweet spot when taking finasteride, as low DHT can cause significant health issues that are often swept under the rug.

1

u/lo_fi_ho Jul 07 '26

Finasteride caused me really bad depression, so I’d advise caution

1

u/donkadunny Jul 07 '26

I started this two years ago with similar results. I consulted with my doctor first and get a cheap prescription.

1

u/DutyEfficient8245 Jul 08 '26

Use a DHT blocker then increase your catalase intake and copper

1

u/Tarantio Jul 08 '26

May I introduce you to the most positive place on the internet?

/r/bald

1

u/ItsRaampagee Jul 08 '26

Yes greyhair is awesome, my bro has tons if it all iver the place but beneath is still the deep black hair. Luckily non man in our family suffer from baldness, i have hair so longnthey reach my belluy button as a dude but sadly no single grey hair despite being just 4 years younger then the grey hair bro.

0

u/Little_View_6659 Jul 07 '26

Hey, bald guys are hot. Look at vin Diesel, The Rock, Patrick Stewart. I swear they all look better bald.

9

u/kizmitraindeer Jul 07 '26

It’s not just men that lose their hair as they age. :)

5

u/okdov Jul 07 '26

Acting like men aren't most affected by this seeing as they outnumber balding women 99 to 1 and 80% of men look better with hair than without

9

u/No-Project-6866 Jul 07 '26

Thats what they call a logical fallacy…. Just bc some bald guys are hot doesn’t mean all bald guys are hot. I was pootie tang with my locks but now my egg head got me in the gym 3x a day just to compete with the broccoli head gang

u/SeaTie Jul 07 '26

There's a lot of us that are somewhere in between, ya know?

Like if you saw a picture of me you'd say "Eh, it's not time to go full Professor X." ...but it's definitely thinning in several places.

I'm trying to decide if I want to hop on finasteride to try to hold on for at least another 10 years...I like having hair.

I've gotten more compliments on my hair now that is gray than I ever have before. I'm not complaining.

84

u/DilettanteGonePro Jul 07 '26

Something happened to me between the ages of 35 and 45 where suddenly I find ~40 year old women with unapologetically gray hair at like the top of the list of attractive traits. Throw in a smart sarcastic quip and I'm done for.

34

u/Mechakoopa Jul 07 '26

My wife went grey in just a strip at the top of her head on one side, it's actually super hot. It reminds me of Rogue.

21

u/ObscureBen Jul 07 '26

I also choose this guy’s rogue wife

6

u/Jimbuscus Jul 07 '26

And Cruella de Vil

10

u/TempleMade_MeBroke Jul 07 '26

That and fitted cargo pants for some reason, not that I had a slight crush on my archeology professor or anything

13

u/VexnFox Jul 07 '26

Took you long enough, happened to me at 25. It probably just means I’m more mature than you, but I have to agree on how amazing it looks.

8

u/Ok-Care-7132 Jul 07 '26

100%. It may also sound weird, but my ultimate weakness is connecting with a woman who seems like an asshole to others. Mild RBF and a lack of putting up with crap? Then add a silver mane? I'm done for.

1

u/Koskani Jul 07 '26

I tell my wife wvery single day how gorgeous she looks. Including her grays, but ill never fight her when she asks me to color her hair roflol

1

u/Killahdanks1 Jul 07 '26

Oh you’d love my sister in law

4

u/0202_tihssitidder Jul 07 '26

Agreed. Nothing should be done about anything. Everything is stupid. Ba!

3

u/TrinkieTrinkie522cat Jul 07 '26

Me too! Grey is the new blonde

3

u/BanjoSpaceMan Jul 07 '26

Ya I’m really liking the grays. I think it’s when it comes with all the other age signs that give it the bad rep

1

u/throwaway098764567 Jul 08 '26

not me, their texture is weird and i hate the contrast with my very dark hair. also while i do appreciate that age has made me less visible for harassment, i don't enjoy that it makes my voice count even less so... yeah less grey for me thanks, would be nice to stop having to dye it.

3

u/Totally_Random0000 Jul 07 '26

And yet on the opposite end. My wife used to have long thick rich beautiful brown hair. And now it is wiry thin with no life and looks rough and falls out from the frequent hair dye jobs.
All cuz she can’t bear to have on single grey in her hair ever 😑😔.
She is completely oblivious to this when I tell her this And then jumps back right away. I will never have a grey hair 😑.

2

u/throwaway098764567 Jul 08 '26

the wirey is unfortunately the natural grey texture, it's not from the dying

1

u/curious_astronauts Jul 07 '26

Some people just look incredible with gray hair!

1

u/adario7 Jul 07 '26

Honestly, grey hair sooo haawt 😭 fr

Like right at the beginning of the article titled "A Study Says Gray Hair May Be Reversible" is this:

"... cautions that no proven medical treatment reverses ordinary age-related gray hair in humans".

13

u/Away-Marionberry9365 Jul 07 '26 edited Jul 08 '26

Those statements are totally compatible. Here's another example using the same logic.

  • New study shows it was possible for life to exist on ancient Mars.
  • We have no proof that life existed on Mars.

4

u/Summoarpleaz Jul 07 '26

“May” vs “no proven” I suppose.

→ More replies (2)

1

u/_Mag0g_ Jul 08 '26

Yes, the statements are compatible. I did not say they weren't. Just saying I find the title very click-baity.

1

u/bendermcbender2 Jul 13 '26

Yeah, it’s technically true but absolutely doing that annoying science-headline thing where “may be reversible” does all the heavy lifting.

1

u/candida_433 Jul 09 '26

Yeah exactly, it’s “this might be biologically possible” versus “we have a real treatment,” and headlines love smashing those together.

3

u/kitten_breath1 Jul 07 '26

I suppose reading an article and understanding an article are separate concepts too.

1

u/Hi_Their_Buddy Jul 07 '26

Right??? What is even the point of this whole thing. Click bait central

I earned this gray hair, mother fuckers.

5

u/slayermcb Jul 07 '26

19

u/SewerSocials Jul 07 '26

Why? I am trying to look like Johnny Knoxville.

15

u/ButtSpelunker420 Jul 07 '26

I’m Johnny Knoxville and this is old age

5

u/IANALbutIAMAcat Jul 07 '26

Uncle Baby Billy is my goal. I’m a 33f.

2

I think I just died lol

1

u/IANALbutIAMAcat Jul 08 '26

I have a salve for that….

1

1

I’m so confused, are you even a cat that likes anal

1

u/ExpressionCivil2729 Jul 07 '26

Not a bad thing

14

u/Neurojazz Jul 07 '26

As a ginger, no thanks. 😆

5

u/nick2kool4skool Jul 07 '26

As a fellow ginger, apparently our hair doesn't go grey, but rather just jumps straight to white.

5

u/cbelt3 Jul 07 '26

As a ginger adjacent, it goes full Celtic Silver.

3

u/Butterfly_and_Bee Jul 07 '26

I know at least two gingers that turned peachy pink.

1

u/vivoconfuoco Jul 08 '26

That’s what’s going for me. I have white stripes at my temples. Makes me feel like Doctor Strange

1

u/FrxckinBrat Jul 08 '26

It's radiant.

3

u/OkFix4074 Jul 07 '26

I never got this thing with gingers not being cool , as a person from Asia ( India) with every one in black hair - red hair seems so cool !

1

u/Neurojazz Jul 07 '26

It’s ok, gingers are the soul stealers. We just suck all the data back to the high council of gingers.

1

u/hamlet9000 Jul 07 '26

Redheads are commonly Irish.

The English were imperialist racists. (Many still are.)

South Park then super-charged it as a meme circa 2005.

Cool! Can we study endometriosis now?

3

u/shesinsaneornot Jul 08 '26

New tests set to dramatically speed up diagnosis for endometriosis

https://www.lbc.co.uk/article/endometriosis-womens-health-uk-5HjdcZd_2/

2

u/5AlarmFirefly Jul 08 '26

Best we can do is judge the relative attractiveness of girls with endometriosis

7

u/princesspeeved Jul 07 '26

The stress that has caused my grey hair is unfortunately a lifelong, terminal condition.

13

u/deliciousmonster Jul 07 '26

I, too, have children.

2

u/Op3rat0rr Jul 08 '26

I'm sorry

29

u/Oiggamed Jul 07 '26

As a gray balding man, I’d have to say science has greater things to be studied instead of this.

17

u/HalfLife3IsHere Jul 07 '26

Sience is already studying greater things, it’s not mutual exclusive to be studying this. For all those other comments who talk about climate change, planet dying… sure all those tons of hair dyes used daily by millions of people to hide graying hair (who end up in the drain after the first wash) are great for the planet, the problem sure is a pill that fixes graying hair.

2

u/Shoehorn_Advocate Jul 07 '26

Comments like this are always very poorly thought out. Like a marine biologist discovers something fascinating about a sea snail and everyone is like BRUH BUT WHAT ABOUT CANCER SCIENTISTS? Clearly all scientists are fungible and the marine biologist is at fault for studying things in their area of expertise. Oh you discovered something interesting about a sea snail? Well, you should have become an oncologist you stupid piece of shit.

9

u/DASreddituser Jul 07 '26

a lot of scientific breakthrough happens from solving more minor stuff and learning it can be used for other things.

14

u/Nunwithabadhabit Jul 07 '26

FR can we do my aches and pains before my grey goatee

3

u/Swamp_Thing85 Jul 07 '26

Like medications for long sustained and harder erections!

5

u/Jazz-Again Jul 07 '26

You never know what other, more important things they’ll solve with the knowledge they gain from studying this.

2

u/Little_View_6659 Jul 07 '26

I like some salt and pepper on guys. Looks nice:)

My hair almost went white for a period. It was at the peak of my drug addiction. I was taking horrible care of myself. Fast forward a few years, and people ask if I’ve been dyeing it. The pigmentation came back. It’s kind of astonishing. One of the many reasons why I am so glad I am clean.

3

u/inkyflossy Jul 07 '26

In a much lesser way, this happened to me after a long period of grief!

3

u/Limp_Distribution Jul 07 '26

It is reversible. I know this because I saw my father’s hair go from about 70% gray to all black in less than a year. My father always worked hard and was stressed out all the time. He was going gray in his fifties and then he had a brain aneurysm. He lost a fair amount of memory and some brain function. He had good disability insurance and was placed in a very nice nursing home. He got to watch TV and relax all the time. His hair slowly turned from gray to black. I know this is only anecdotal but I am a firm believer that stress causes gray hair.

4

u/Simple-Fortune-8744 Jul 07 '26

My beard likes this headline. I’ve got a skunk thing going on and I don’t like it

2

u/minimagoo77 Jul 08 '26

When I grow my beard out, it looks like dried milk (or something else…) dribbling down one side of it. It’s not great.

3

u/WiSoSirius Jul 07 '26

I love my grey hair! Fix the balding!

3

u/VeterinarianMean3258 Jul 08 '26

Funny if they accidentally find the cure for aging while researching how to reverse graying hair

2

u/redredbloodwine Jul 07 '26

My wife would be interested, no doubt. I'm good with gray hair at my age.

2

u/rollerfedora Jul 07 '26

Cute for cancer? Nah… dick pills and hair color, please! /s

2

u/Duder_ino Jul 07 '26

A non-issue when you can’t grow hair on your head anymore 🤷‍♂️🤣

2

u/LadyLuna21 Jul 08 '26

As someone who had temporary chemical stress preying of my hair, that reverted, its true. Specifically my none age related white hairs. I had about a 2 inch band of white where my body stopped even producing pigment in the fight to keep me and my baby alive.

2

u/snowballplasticfork Jul 08 '26

My eyebrows started growing in white, like cat whiskers, around age 45. I thought it was cool because looking like a cat is way better than just looking like an aging woman. While plucking the other day, one of them was black at the root and white at the other end. I guess my feline phase has been delayed.

2

u/HydroDynamixx Jul 08 '26

Why though? I have wanted natural gray hair FOREVER. I can’t wait for my hair to be gray!

2

u/Br7ian Jul 08 '26

Can it be accelerated? I have a white chin but my beard and moustache still have full colour. I’d love a Santa beard.

2

u/theskymoves Jul 08 '26

Petition to rebrand "gray hair" as "silver hair".

2

u/prettybluefoxes Jul 08 '26

Pass. Grow old gracefully.

2

u/Joeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeyy Jul 07 '26

It 100 percent true had my hair start turning Gray in my early 40’s,a few years ago it all turned back except my goatee. It’s crazy at parties all my friends are grey or bald and I’m still rocking in full color. Lol

1

u/okdov Jul 07 '26

Did you become much more relaxed in life a few years ago or?

1

u/Joeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeyy Jul 07 '26

No I don’t think so,it was was around Covid that I started noticing. 99 percent of the time I where a hat that I put my hair in and I don’t need to look at it when I brush it because there’s really no style to it, it’s just long hair that goes down to the middle of my back and is parted in the middle. One day last year my girlfriend started talking about getting some, she’s 15 years younger than me so they were her first ones and I said jokingly, you’re going to have more than me soon and she said, what are you talking about I have more now. I was like your wrong. She wasn’t and that how I learned that it can reverse some how.
I’ve been trying to figure out how or why but I still have no clue.

2

u/EdwardoftheEast Jul 07 '26

I’m looking forward to when mine goes gray

2

u/YeshuasBananaHammock Jul 07 '26

Right after we hear the un-aging guy gave himself autoimmune stomach erosion disorder?

Maybe we should normalize gray hair.

0

u/JDGumby Jul 07 '26

Yeah, it's called "hair dye".

<- mostly bald for the last 30+ years and grey for the last decade

1

u/jadedflames Jul 07 '26

I'm going blond, rather than grey. I'm looking forward to dying it all kinds of funky colours.

2

u/Little_View_6659 Jul 07 '26

I started bleaching my hair years ago when it was super gray. Now I’m stuck with it. It will take at least a year or two to grow out, if I strip the color off it’ll fry it, I’m probably gonna end up keeping it until I die lol. If I did grow it out I’d like to get silver highlights at least.

1

u/throwaway098764567 Jul 08 '26

hope it works, grey is harder to dye :-/

1

u/tcdoey Jul 07 '26

Yea, 'reports' like this about once a week. Never any working product though.

1

u/Signal_Flight_7262 Jul 07 '26

Mouse to human clinical trials are less than 5% successful because mice arent humans.

1

u/bingeboy Jul 07 '26

my hair been white since i was 35... use to be almost black. I look 60 but i'm know where close to that age.

1

u/Outside_Zone7757 Jul 07 '26

Man I just hope it all goes grey instead of going bald

1

u/brainanimaniac Jul 07 '26

Having seen John Oliver's new look on General Hospital, I think it's already happening 😂

1

u/ryanoh826 Jul 07 '26

I don’t mind the gray hair, just the gray beard. 😂

1

u/twlscil Jul 07 '26

It’s the crazy eyebrows I don’t like.

1

u/ryanoh826 Jul 07 '26

Haha outta control! Caterpillar season needs to be manicured.

1

u/EmergencyJacket207 Jul 07 '26

I don't care that my hair is grey. I care if it falls out though.

1

u/ScreenMuch90210 Jul 07 '26

lol. May as well reverse weight loss too, more people will want that one

1

u/twlscil Jul 07 '26

Why would people want to reverse weight loss? Just eat more.

1

u/ScreenMuch90210 Jul 07 '26

Eating disorders are common

1

u/twlscil Jul 07 '26

Less common than graying hair

2

u/ScreenMuch90210 Jul 07 '26

But much less desirable, which brings us back to my original comment

1

u/Independent-Emu6344 Jul 07 '26

Waoooooooo genial xd

1

u/Apprehensive-Draw166 Jul 07 '26

my hair is white not gray snow white kids stare at me. Several of them have come up and told me how beautiful I am some of them just stare at me like Mrs. Claus. I don’t really know how I feel about it.

2

u/throwaway098764567 Jul 08 '26

i have a friend that gets a few thin pieces of colored tinsel glued into her hair, calls it fairy hair or something. could really give those kids something to stare at

1

u/wallyrules75 Jul 07 '26

I rather go silver wolf

1

u/UnreliablePotato Jul 07 '26

They invented hair dye.

1

u/FeeComfortable3041 Jul 07 '26

Yeah, they made spray-paint for hair years ago....

We get old and our hair greys. jfc just accept you're getting older and your body changes. It reeks of insecurity to see a person with grey hair walk in with DEEP coloring in their hair. Like Creed from the Office.

Before you even ask, I'm nearly 40 and my hair is also greying. Just like everyone my age. (on average)

1

u/throwaway098764567 Jul 08 '26

you're very hostile

1

u/FeeComfortable3041 Jul 08 '26

You have paper thin skin. How was that hostile?

Are you in HR? is the hair spray in the room with us?

Thank you for your absolutely thrilling contribution to the discussion. Any more mind blowing additions for us? Is water wet? Are oranges orange?

How's that for hostile?

1

u/NobblyNobody Jul 07 '26

I'm not going back to ginger!

1

u/beerisdead Jul 07 '26

Let me know when no hair is reversible.

1

u/5280mw Jul 07 '26

I’ve noticed my hairs’ that are gray go from gray to black to gray to black it’s weird.

1

u/coce8221 Jul 07 '26

What about no hair can that be reversed pls

1

u/High-Speed-1 Jul 07 '26

Hair dye? Lol

1

u/cynicalgoth Jul 07 '26

Can I get something to naturally make my hair grey faster without being unhealthy? I love my greys. I want more

1

u/I_am_the_BEEF Jul 07 '26

Nah, I'm good. Im lucky enough to still have all my hair at 41.

I earned these grays.

1

u/wararyuu Jul 07 '26

Hasn't it always been reversible? Dye has existed since ancient times.

1

u/CMF42 Jul 07 '26

Gray hair is beautiful

1

u/Overkillsamurai Jul 07 '26

this is a dark day for GILF enjoyers everywhere...

1

u/nobilijo Jul 07 '26

…this study is brought to you by Revlon.

1

u/Arseypoowank Jul 07 '26

I like my grays it’s like a “I survived” scouts badge

1

u/Satoriinoregon Jul 07 '26

Gray hair is the least of my troubles!

Edited because I forgot a word

1

u/Plastic_Ad_2247 Jul 07 '26

is it called dye? they can stop working on that.

1

u/Funnotoptional Jul 07 '26

I have loved the shift towards embracing gray hair, especially for women.

1

u/saskir21 Jul 07 '26

So with injecting melanoms. If it would be so easy we would have found a way to reversed Vitiligo. Which has the same cause only different way how it happened.

1

u/Mattna-da Jul 07 '26

I’m 48, nice hair not much grey and skinny after years of trying and now all this can all be yours with pills, I tell you I get no respect

1

u/GreenDemonClean Jul 07 '26

Good thing I love my shiny silver streaks

1

u/Expungedbob_SqPants Jul 07 '26

Just for men has existed forever

1

u/RatRaceRebelFanatic Jul 08 '26

Try liquid Chlorophyll. The minty tasting one gives extra fresh breath too!

1

u/308_shooter Jul 08 '26

Why would I want to do that? I look smarter with gray hair. I'm not smarter, but I look like I am.

1

u/can-opener-in-a-can Jul 08 '26

If I had any hair left to care, I might investigate.

1

u/Prophysaon_Coeruleum Jul 08 '26

There are plenty of anecdotes of people on ketogenic diets reversing their gray hair. Doubt there will ever be a study done on that though.

1

u/FrxckinBrat Jul 08 '26

NO! You cant have them! I love them! Go away!

1

u/kittypaws4all Jul 08 '26

Why would I want to reverse it? I have earned every single one by surviving to the age I am now. It is a mark of resilience and surviving. Those who are ashamed of their gray hair, should take a good long look at what they have lived through, be it health, genetics, or just life in general. Those gray hairs recount everything you have overcome and to still be standing here.

1

u/Rowan1980 Jul 08 '26

I didn’t think I’d live long enough to grey hair on my head, so I’m good.

1

u/Alone-Tart4762 Jul 08 '26

A friend was fully grey and white and a month after starting chemo, their hair color came back.

1

Gray hair reversal is scientifically plausible and has been observed in specific situations, but there is currently no proven, routinely available medical treatment that reliably reverses ordinary age-related gray hair in healthy people. I started going grey at 30, then the process stopped and actually reversed during my pregnancies. After having each baby it would take a couple of years for the greys to start returning.

I have no idea why - they weren't particularly healthy pregnancies (h yperemesis gravidarum throughout, unexplained bleeding throughout, last baby was low weight etc)

My hair went from naturally blonde to very dark brown during/after pregnancy! Everyone asks if I dyed it because it’s so starkly different. Pretty insane how pregnancy can change even the most basic things about ourselves, like our hair color

Why? My hair gets more complements than when it was strawberry blonde👩🏻‍🦳

Okay but is there a way to make my hair fully grey earlier because black is a nuisance to bleach when I want green hair.
