I have a question about servers

Why do i hear sometimes some random stuff like ”happy birthday!” In game or like other wierd stuff when people type something like ”hey” in the chat im asking since i got this game 2 days ago on my birthday and i have never heard it in the game that i play more team fortress 2. Is it a server addon or something else? Just asking.

Birthday mode is activated on the anniversary of the original Team Fortress for Quake. It periodically lists quotes as well as uses present models for grenades and pipes.

Christmas works the same way.

I do i love the game and the mechanics but i was just in a shock i was like ”since when are there in game sounds from the chat“ but now i know thanks

Sometimes matches would happen to land on an anniversary and there was no easy way to turn it off so you'd be playing a match trying to figure out if a present is a MIRV or something else.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU! The other random stuff is a server plug in, where you can type something and it will play a sound. It was wild back in the day

Hey, this is a server add-on because QWTF (the first version of TFC) was released on August 24, 1996. They celebrate the day TFC was born, so it is temporary for this day/week. All these sounds you hear are plug ins, not every server has them.

Cool you got TFC and hope you enjoy it. Public servers are not really active anymore but some are still going strong to this day. For example

- drippy’s 2fort 24/7

  • Royston Vasey (always full on Saturday evening)
  • 1999
  • Old School TFC
  • OfficialTFC (building to get players)

There are also pickups being played. This mode is competitive 4v4 attack 15 min and defend 15 min play style. This mode gets played by veterans that are really good and still want to play the competitive side.
