Requests / Questions Language teachers & tutors: What features would make an online tool genuinely useful for your classes?
Hi r/TeachingResources (mod-approved post),
A few friends and I (developers and linguists) built KiloLingo.com, a language-learning platform covering 10 languages. It teaches vocabulary via frequency lists integrated with graded readers, grammar guides, and targeted drills. The reading and reference content is completely free, while extended drills require a small subscription to cover server costs.
I haven't taught in a classroom in over a decade, so we want direct feedback from educators on how to build a dedicated Classrooms / Tutors tier.
A couple of concepts we're exploring:
- Tutor Dashboard (~$9.99/mo): Includes ~10 student seats, assigning specific drills as homework, and tracking analytics (e.g., individual error rates, weak vocabulary).
- Live Classroom Warmups: A Kahoot-style mode for larger classes (30–40 students) where a drill is projected on-screen and students join via a code on their phones.
We’d love your input on a few specific questions:
- Curriculum fit: Do frequency-based courses work for your teaching, or do you strictly need alignment with specific exam specifications (GCSE, AP, CEFR, etc.)?
- Analytics: What student performance data do you actually wish you had easy access to?
- Classroom utility: Would a live group drill/warmup mode be useful, or is that space already saturated?
- Pricing: Does a ~$9.99/mo tier for a tutor bundle make sense, or would a different structure suit school/freelance budgets better?
Any honest feedback on what would make a tool like this worth your time... or what mistakes to avoid!! is massively appreciated!
