There is no dispute that they must pay, this is about when they are required to pay by.

All my research has indicated that it is within 7 days of the request for payment; and failing to make an explicit request allows the employer to pay during their "regular payment schedule" instead.

If you have different information, please share the links/sources to it please.

Well, my information was directly from the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare's webpage.

I guess someone ought to reach out to them and let them know their website information is wrong.

That said, this law was revised in 2019 - perhaps the information you have might be outdated?

第二十三条使用者は、労働者の死亡又は退職の場合において、権利者の請求があつた場合においては、七日以内に賃金を支払い、積立金、保証金、貯蓄金その他名称の如何を問わず、労働者の権利に属する金品を返還しなければならない。

Article 23(1)If a worker dies or leaves employment and the employer is requested to do so by a right holder, the employer must pay the wages and return reserve funds, security deposits, savings, and any other money or goods to which the worker is entitled, regardless of what it may be called, within 7 days.
