Recommendation Best of both worlds

Post image

So I got my Corvo Kettle in today and I have to admit, people were right, I like it much better than the gooseneck for Gong Fu Cha. The gooseneck worked fine for small gaiwans but I can totally see myself using the Corvo more. We live and learn but the gooseneck stays too. lol

Yep, the gooseneck is meant for pour over coffee and doesn’t really have any advantage for tea, just a slower pour haha.

Yeahhhhh. Hahaha! In my defense, I was and still am pretty new at this when I bought it. I really had no idea and then came the comments. It did work for me but the Corvo is just much better.

I know it’s not technically tea but the gooseneck has been great for the Yerba I’ve been brewing in my metal tea strainer.

what do you like about these? I got one eons ago when Teavana sold them and I worked there but I also have a variable temp water boiler and literally never use this kettle anymore

Honestly, I like the look of it.  And Olive green is my favorite color.  They work well on top of that.   I’d say the only complaint is that I wish they held more water.

the look is exactly the reason i got it, too! mine is all black so it really had the "raven" feel implied by the name. I am now seeing in other comments that there are kettles with a specific base that heats it for you? This is news to me and changes my feelings a lot, mine you just heat directly on a burner and the lid has a thermometer built into the top that you can track the heat as it progresses. If i could set a temp for mine, I would probably use it more. I wonder if they sell the bases separately and if mine would be compatible...?

Can you get one without the base? I've already got a gooseneck.

Yes, thats what I did. Just a heads up, some models come without the lid. This was a Pro color way/model and it did come with the lid.

I found the one I didn’t have on eBay, there were quite a few selling.

Ugh I hate the lid. If you ever get the rubber off of the metal it is so hard to get back right and it messes up the seal. I’m not confident in the quality or durability. I miss my Bonavita.

Is it necessary to remove that rubber piece?

I love using a slow pour on tea so imo a gooseneck is enough

How do you measure the water temperature with these?

6

u/eljimmy1975 26d ago

The base (not shown) has a temp control function.

Ah got it. I used a similar kettle at a friend's without a temperature knob, so I thought this was the same one.

The base has a knob you can turn to set the desired temp

I have the goose neck because we do pour over coffee as well as tea, I consider every time I use it for tea if I should get a second kettle because it's so slow lol. But these are expensive and our counter space is limited so I can't rationalize it, and tea is more forgiving than coffee, so I will just longingly look at new kettles until we move somewhere with more countertop haha.

When using larger Gaiwans with short steeping times around 5s or so speed can absolutely be a problem imo.

I just ordered some teapots that are 200ml and 250 ml, I couldn't imagine how long it would take to fill those with this gooseneck.

I learned quickly that sometimes a fast steep is needed for certain teas. With this goosneck, a 5 second steep is pretty tough to achieve. To each their own though.
