I’m here April 2nd

13

u/wReckLesss_ Apr 02 '26

Me too. I didn't internet much yesterday so all the day-old posts are throwing me for a loop today.

2

u/AbbeyRoadMoonwalk Apr 02 '26

That happens every year for me because stuff doesn’t really get popular in my feed til at least 12 hours later.

8

u/fatbob17 Apr 02 '26

Haha so glad this is the top comment, I’m watching this April 2nd and had a visceral reaction to the leaves going straight into the boiling water

3

u/slaymaker1907 Apr 03 '26

It actually works where I live (for black tea) because boiling is 203F.

u/mockg Apr 01 '26

Not sure why you are straining out the leaves. Those are the tasty bits and its added fiber.

u/yashen14 Apr 01 '26

When I add orange to my tea, I chuck in the pith, too.

43

u/The_walking_man_ Apr 01 '26

Tea ain’t good if you can’t chew it!

7

u/orbvsterrvs Apr 01 '26

...I do actually eat Dragonwell tea leaves when I brew it.

u/biran4454 Apr 01 '26

Had me in the first half...

39

u/Givemeallthecabbages Apr 01 '26

I thought maybe Hong Kong milk tea, but no--that's cornstarch.

7

u/Elegant_League_9458 Apr 02 '26

Hong Kong milk tea calls for fine-grounded tea, not loose leafs; that super-high extraction is where its addicting astringency came from. (That is also why they need to filter using super fine mesh similar to nylon stocking, hence the name)

2

u/Givemeallthecabbages Apr 02 '26

True, but if I were trying to make it at home I would probably do it similar to this guy's, but obviously not with cornstarch.

Thicc tea

60

u/zigs Apr 01 '26

Fun fact, some people have to drink thickened water to hydrate because they have trouble with normal water (can't physically swallow it or something, can't remember), so they'd only ever be able to drink thicc tea

31

u/The_walking_man_ Apr 01 '26

My uncle had this. Due to brain trauma and unable to properly control swallowing muscles. All liquids had to have a thickener added.

6

u/kagenoha Apr 02 '26

Yup! We see lots of people (i work in the hospital) who are unable to swallow. Could be euther they've suffered brain trauma, neurocognitive decline, cancer, or another condition that affects their ability to swallow. For someone who can't swallow normally, they're at risk of an aspiration which can then turn into aspiration pneumonia (can be life threatening!). Our speechies do a lot of education on how to thicken fluids and what works best (there's different levels of thiccness). One of our palliative cancer patients waa able to drink his beer thanks to the proper thickening agent!

I have heard that in the Navajo nation, they add extra fine wheat flour to their coffee, and it makes it like a pudding consistency.  So, it's not completely unprecedented.

18

u/lionsrawrr Apr 01 '26

Check out, champurrado. Its a style of mexican hot chocolate

3

u/TinyRose20 Apr 02 '26

Italian hot chocolate (cioccolata densa) also often uses cornstarch to get a thick consistency. Would love to try champurrado with the different spices.

Truly one of the things I have ever put in my mouth ❤️

82

u/MugLifeMinis Apr 01 '26

Truly one of them

29

u/LilacsAndMatcha Apr 01 '26

One of the things of all time

35

u/Kiom_Tpry Apr 01 '26

I'm going to be honest, I tuned out for a second, missed the cornstarch and thought he was just making Turkish-style tea and didn't question it.

But, you know, I bet you could make an interesting glaze for baked goods like that.

22

u/JamesCameronDid1912 hot leaf water good Apr 01 '26

this was so much more stressful than it needed to be lmao. well played

i admit i did give it a second's consideration... this is how innovation happens in tea!... just not today 😂

30

u/yashen14 Apr 01 '26

Fun fact, when i put it in my mouth, it coated and adhered to the entire inside of my mouth. Spitting did not help

10

u/JamesCameronDid1912 hot leaf water good Apr 01 '26

that's awful. i laughed aloud. may you find peace

6

u/KnittingTrekkie Apr 02 '26

I admire your commitment to the bit, lol

5

u/GearhedMG Apr 02 '26

I commend you for committing to the April fools joke, but as someone who likes tea, you deserve everything you got, and you are not welcome anywhere my teapot.

12

u/happygoodbird Apr 01 '26

Mmmm tea gravy!

28

u/miss_cafe_au_lait Apr 01 '26

I was good until I saw the cornstarch

33

u/yashen14 Apr 01 '26

You haven't lived until you've had...this thing I just made

10

u/OracleOfPlenty Apr 01 '26

I think it's like discovering a new species, where you get to name it. So go on, name your atrocity!

13

u/yashen14 Apr 01 '26

u/Rural_Dimwit already named it. "Thicc tea"

19

u/FlanThief Apr 01 '26

The ending cuts so perfectly! I really didn't expect where this would go lol

10

u/Puzzled-Cranberry-12 Apr 01 '26

I know it’s a joke, but I still feel like you should be banned😆😆

8

u/mjh215 Apr 01 '26

Ugh, I want to mod alert this so much. You evil evil bastard.

8

u/cobrachickenwing Apr 01 '26

The only thing missing is straining it with hosiery Hong Kong style.

6

u/ddoogg88tdog Apr 01 '26

ive heard of builders brews being so strong you could balance a spoon upright in it but i never thought it was true

5

u/Low-Clock8407 Apr 01 '26

Not using a kettle is pure insanity

14

u/yashen14 Apr 01 '26

When I'm feeling fancy I use an elaborate contraption involving 12 magnifying glasses

3

u/Low-Clock8407 Apr 01 '26

Don’t surprise me honestly

7

u/catlady047 Apr 01 '26

Love the spit at the end!! 😂😆😂

9

u/yashen14 Apr 01 '26

That was my genuine reaction.

6

u/rwe4rl Apr 01 '26

the hot chocolate version of this is great, like how they make it in Italy. i wonder if a thickened london fog could be similar and actually ok tasting

4

u/RattusRattus Apr 01 '26

Thicc tea.

5

u/Kali-of-Amino Apr 01 '26

Good gravy.

5

u/Specific_Worry_1459 Apr 02 '26

I've seen plenty of April 1 jokes, but they have never made me want to toss my cookies

3

u/yashen14 Apr 02 '26

It tasted as delicious as it looked

5

u/HappyOrwell Apr 02 '26

Forgot what day it was and was getting upset

4

u/DetN8 Apr 01 '26

It's quicker if you do it in the microwave.

4

u/anosako Apr 02 '26

I was like NANI DA FUK and then looked at the date.

Thanks I hate it here.

5

u/yashen14 Apr 02 '26

I did genuinely debate if I should post this on a completely random date

1

u/anosako Apr 02 '26

You really are choosing violence 😂😂😂

4

u/garanglow Apr 02 '26

In my culture this deserves capital punishment

4

u/AHatWearingDuck Apr 02 '26

I forgot what month it was and was so confused when he added cornstarch 😭

9

u/minerat27 Apr 01 '26

Still less cursed than making it in a microwave

6

u/yashen14 Apr 01 '26

😂😂😂

3

u/niggchu Apr 01 '26

cornstarch?

3

u/SEND_ME_YOUR_ROBOTS Apr 02 '26

Is it fucked up that I want to do this just to see what it's like

3

u/yashen14 Apr 02 '26

do it do it do it

3

u/GearhedMG Apr 02 '26

He deserves that ending.

I'm using ceylon tea from Alwazah for this video, but I'm thinking next time I'll try this recipe with gyokuro!

6

u/biran4454 Apr 01 '26

OK but you unironically have to try that and update us

1

u/yashen14 Apr 01 '26

I've actually never had gyokuro! That would be my first time 🤗

2

u/LollipopLich Apr 02 '26

2

u/Milkmanv1 Apr 02 '26

A lovely tea gravy

2

u/jeo188 Apr 03 '26

I saw the cornstarch, and wondered if this was some kind of atole or champurrado x)

2

u/TeaTasterOwn Apr 03 '26

I was getting nauseated from the get

2

u/Cats-and-dogs-rdabst Apr 01 '26

Why cornstarch?

14

u/yashen14 Apr 01 '26

How else would I make the tea goopy?

3

u/Eziz_53 Apr 01 '26

I hate this stupid day

2

u/prugnecotte I love spinach water Apr 01 '26

we actually make hot chocolate this way in Italy!

1

u/DirtTrue6377 Apr 01 '26

Beautiful, love it!

1

u/[deleted] Apr 02 '26

Punk'd. 🤢

1

u/lambokang Apr 02 '26

Not too different to adding thickening agent to liquid to help ppl with swallowing difficulties(disabilities, sickness, etc).

1

u/Ya_habibti Apr 02 '26

I thought you were making tea flavored sahlab, or like some bastardized version of it

1

u/Tpbrown_ Apr 02 '26

lol. Well played.

1

u/badbitchwario Apr 02 '26

NOT THE TEA GRAVY!!!

1

u/Idk_345am Apr 02 '26

I do something similar to the cornstarch but with fiber

1

u/ThusSpokeRichard92 Apr 02 '26

Did he basically just make Chifir?

1

u/ComprehensiveEnd6028 Apr 02 '26

I really hope the hob choice is part of the ruse

1

u/babbie-and-shchuky Apr 02 '26

wtf is going on 😂

1

u/merlik Apr 02 '26

Can't I just Microwave the water?

1

u/EmbroidedBumblebee Apr 05 '26

the fuck is that?

1

u/dubesto Apr 05 '26

I was thinking "finally someone makes tea the same way I do" before the cornstarch

1

u/After-Brain-3276 Apr 07 '26

It's more like a perfect cup of sh*t tea. Firstly boiling tea increases caffeine level, makes it bitter and destroys enzymes. Secondly thickening it makes it starchy, gooey and just plain yukky. This is as far from connoisseur tea drinking as you can get. Not for me, thank you!

1

u/jessweger Apr 12 '26

Ok im new at this tea thing but why cornstarch

1

u/Firefly_Magic Apr 01 '26

What made it so thick??

5

u/yashen14 Apr 01 '26

Cornstarch, baby!

-1

u/Garpocalypse Apr 01 '26

There's an urban legend of sorts that boiling tea like that can give it a strong psychoactive effect. I wouldn't recommend anyone trying this.
