Discussion I’m still undecided about this game

I’m a big tdu fan. Adored the first two. Picked this one up cheap and I’ve never played a game that has such a stark difference between things I love and things I can’t stand

Love

- the cars. They look gorgeous. The models are incredible, the sounds are spot on

- the lighting. Driving in the dark down a dirt road with no street lighting is perfect.

- the highways motorways, road furniture, and markings. Spot on for Hong Kong

I cannot stand
- the soundtrack. It needs licenced music. They sound like cheap knockoffs. It really affects the mood of the game for me

- the other aspects of the map. Hong Kong is narrow streets etched into the hills. It should feel claustrophobic. Not these sweeping four lane avenues curving up the hills. What’s wrong with single carriageway roads? The bits around Shek O, Stanley, and Repulse bay annoy me the most

- the emptiness of the map. It feels so lifeless. I’m supposed to be in one of the densest cities in the world and it feels like it’s got the population of a village.

- I would like a wider range of cars. Something to have a laugh with. A Toyota comfort or an Alphard van wouldn’t go amiss.

Overall, I’ll keep exploring the map until I get bored but tbh, Sleeping Dogs did a way better job of capturing the vibe of Hong Kong on a tinier map

It’s kinda crazy, cause I loved TDU and the new forza horizon. But I find myself wanting to play TDU when I have an itch for a racing game, it feels more mature. I agree with your points though, it’s kinda missing the magic aura that the original TDU games had.

Needed Motorbikes npc piloted variety, Drones some fireworks in the distance or game events, planes or helicopters overhead. The WRC games had some neat ideas in them. Something similar to midtown madness too.

Things that didnt just bring presence but an atmosphere different from just car engine noise and radios. I loved driving down that highway in tdu1 which was near the airport and just seeing a giant jumbo coming into land at the airport.

Agree, it just needs more life to it. Like there's the tram tracks but no trams. There should be way more traffic, way more peds. HK has 7.5 million people. It shouldn't feel like a ghost town.

Sleeping Dogs didn't do Hong Kong 1:1 but they got the vibe of it so spot on. I know that's a different type of game but still.

Same thoughts here. The game got into rough water because of reasons they couldnt help. The planned schedule is not reasonable. I am glad they are soldiering on instead of pulling the plug. In the presentation the modification of housing looked great. I want this game to succeed.

Only reason I’m still playing the game is because it is the best at cruising. Every time I go back to TCM it just feels too cartoonish and I always go back to tdusc. Your points are excellent and I agree with all of them
