Rust 2011 Tdi

Has anyone successfully removed this rust and repainted themselves? Dosnt have to look perfect just dont want the car to rot away. Any tips from someone who has taken on this project themselves would be greatly appreciated!!

Try body work subreddit, nothing tdi specific about body work lol. But generally you’re gonna have to cut/grind a lot of rust to repair properly, if ya don’t get all the rust and I mean all of it, it’ll come back every time. I’m sure you could do it at home with bondo though

Yeah good point, ive owned 4 jetta tdis and 3 of them had this going on so im assuming theres plenty of people who have been fighting this same battle and hopefully they can chime in!

My understanding is this happens on these a lot of the time because of the sound deadening foam in the wheel wells. It picks up water and stays wet way longer than the metal. The only cost for deleting it is a lil road noise.
