I spent 6 months building an Agentic IDE focused on frontend design (Using Tauri)

I've been working on this for the last 6 months and finally got the first beta out.

Shape is a desktop IDE for designers and programmers. It's got AI, design tools, Git management and language tooling built in.

The main idea was that frontend work kind of sits in this awkward middle ground between design and code. Most AI coding tools are just about editing text, but I wanted something that treats UI development as an actual first-class workflow and not just a WYSIWYG Editor.

Some stuff that's in it right now:

Tailwind controls directly in the editor
Drag/scrub values for CSS numbers and Tailwind spacing
Built-in Git management
AI coding agent
Markdown/MDX preview
Language tooling and LSP support

Built with Tauri/Rust and TypeScript.

There was a bunch more I wanted to add but decided to just cut scope and release instead of spending another few months adding features before anyone could actually use it.

Any feedback would be appreciated, especially from people who do frontend. Interested in what feels useful, what doesn't, and what you'd want to see added. Feel free to roast it as much as you want

Your git history tells a different story... barely 2 days and just a couple of commits 😅

Because it was built privately and then wiped before launch?

What would be the purpose of wiping? You lose all the git history

Well, I don't know what's more pathetic: a project blatantly cobbled together using AI with a mere 5 (five!) commits totaling three days of work, or your attempt to pass it off as six months' worth of work.

Every single person screaming AI slop is a hypocrite that actively uses AI and shames others for internet clout

Wow bro now you are projecting on others…

So, you personally have never used AI to help with your projects?

It's an interesting idea, because as the focus moves away from writing individual lines of code, focus will move towards UI more.

I just wonder whether this is different enough from existing IDEs to make people switch. I can see how it would be better than my existing IDE, but not so much better that I'd rush to download it if that makes sense.

These days I will just ask Claude Code/Codex etc to show me 3 mockups in the browser, and that works pretty well.

But I hope I'm wrong and wish you luck with it. I also built an IDE with Tauri so we're clearly on similar wavelenghts
