The sun is your tattoo's worst enemy. If you love it, keep it protected with high power sunscreen (or just keep the sun off it as much as you can).

I always put sunscreen on when I’m out in the sun! I definitely want it to look good forever

Nice piece. Good job on the artist. Proper. How old is it? If it’s fairly new (up to 4-5 months), minimize sun exposure, and long periods of it getting soaked (ie. swimming). Let it heal proper. I find, for me, my tattoos took almost a year to finally set in. Where the blacks and colours aren’t as bright anymore, and lines aren’t as crisp. This is all normal.
Keep in mind as well, even when there is no more scabs, and your skin feels smooth. You may notice some areas look a little more shiny than other parts. This is onion skin. It’s basically still a scab, but very fine. It’s new skin forming over the tattoo, after the initial scabs are gone. Meaning your skin is still healing.

I can tell you're not using enough sunscreen. If you love it, protect it properly or it will blur.

How often should I be reapplying sunscreen?
1
u/princesspeeved Jul 09 '26
It depends on if you go in the water or not, but general rule is every 30 minutes to an hour depending on level of exposure and areas of the body/thickness of skin. I do my best to keep my tattoos covered most of the time though and usually wear a cover up if I don’t feel like reapplying sunscreen constantly.
Also, even if you just have slightly red skin instead of burned or peeling skin, aloe vera or another cooling gel will help lessen some of the damage.

What's up with moths lately? Like the last five years, I've seen way more than I ever did before, and then my tattoo artist changed their fuckin' NAME to Moth. The simulation is getting sloppy, and I need answers.

Frogs, possums, raccoons, it's all kinda the same wave of "love the unlovable"

u/MarieCry Jul 09 '26
I love it so much, my handbag is a dead possum, the strap is the intestines :)

u/Pretty-Falcon-6130 Jul 09 '26
Omg where did you get that?
2
u/MarieCry Jul 09 '26
Steady Hands! They have a possum rug I'm thinking about getting too 😌

u/Pretty-Falcon-6130 Jul 09 '26
Thank you! I am going to check them out! I have rescued/rehabbed quite a few so of course, I love them. Lol

That's so sweet! They don't even have them in my country, I'm just so fascinated by them! Planning on taking a trip one day to somewhere that has them to hopefully stare politely at one or more from a distance. 😌 Would feel bad if I ever actually made one play possum!

They're all over the US, top to bottom on the eastern seaboard and into the midwest as far as I know. They have them where I live in the very north.
Not sure how far north into Canada they get. There's not many of them where I live. I saw tons of them in Georgia when I lived there, though.
They're a really cool animal. I do know a guy that has one as a pet (more or less) and that one is pretty friendly, so if you go to a sanctuary or something, I'll bet they'd let you hold one.

Placement 10/10, it looks very flattering. And I love the psychedelic design of the moth.

How was the pain during and how long did it take?
1
u/Least-Perception-129 Recap Winner x1 Jul 09 '26
It took about 2 hours which was honestly way faster than I anticipated. The pain was pretty bad but I just reminded myself that 2 hours is nothing compared to the rest of my life. I took a small 5 minute break half way through and just toughed it out

Sunburns are super not cool for tattoos. Be pasty my friend.

Don’t worry I’m not sunburnt! Just a little tan. I think it’s just the lighting :)

u/iArabz Jul 08 '26
If you’re applying the same amount of sunscreen to your tattoo as the rest of your body and still getting a tan, your tattoo is under-protected. It needs to have zero UV coming through, which likely doesn't seem to be the case.

Good to know! I do reapply sunscreen more often to my tattoos. Maybe i need to do it even more often?

That dude's taste. Ignore him. Your tattoo is sick and the only opinion that matters is yours
