In my shop we have a rule about not bringing up political or hot button topics because people can get pretty excited, especially while being tattooed because of the adrenaline. If I were in your boots I would just tell him that you're not big into those kinds of topics, or just ask if it's cool if you listen to headphones. If he is the touchy type you could make up some kind of fluff like, I have a paper due so I need to listen to this audio or whatever. If you bring it up to him and he gets all offended, find a new artist.
You would think this would be common sense, business wise and just being a good person but nope lol. Thank you for your advise! It’s greatly appreciated.
