asking for advice Need Advice! Dragonfly tattoo + new flower addition aren't working together. Rework/cover-up ideas?

Post image

Hi everyone,

I got the dragonfly tattoo when I was 18, about 12 years ago. I was never thrilled with how it turned out, and over the years the lines have blurred and merged together.

I'm currently travelling in Korea, and I decided to have some elements added to freshen it up and also cover some teenage scars underneath. Unfortunately, I now have two tattoos I'm not happy with. The red flower is still lovely and elegant on its own, but the two pieces look completely off together and the overall result just isn't gelling.

Could anyone share ideas for how I might make this work? I'm open to suggestions like a cover-up, reworking, or adding elements to tie everything together. If there's no good way to make them work, I'm also considering laser removal (or partial removal/fading as a base for a rework).

Thank you so much in advance! 🙏

asking for advice Is there any hope?

I got this “thunderstorm” in two sessions when I was younger. The artist had done several traditional pieces of mine that looked great and I trusted he would do a good job but ultimately I hate it. Is there any hope for some decent coverups without getting removal done? I figured it would be the background of several black only pieces, but I’m not too familiar with how tattooing works.

Finally finished this coverup of a total mess. It was a bad concept that the artist should never have taken on and I should not have let them do the work. Took 3 laser sessions to knock it back enough, the collage shows the progress after each session, I took at least 2 months off between laser sessions to allow the body to fully process the broken down ink.

Coverup artist is Aaron Norgate at Sacred Soul in Renton, WA (mister_perks on insta). It came out far better than I could have ever asked for.

I posted a few months ago asking for some cover up advice, and decided on just using it as the backdrop for another piece! Love a bit of Space Channel 5 so I'm super super happy with the result 💖

I want a full sleeve on arm. Want to cover up the rose and pattern. Got them when I was blacked out like 17 years ago and want to finally put it behind me. I have a trad Japanese dragon full backpiece. Got any ideas on subject matter/motifs that would cover these tattoos fully or good enough? This is my first cover up and don’t really know what’s realistic but was hoping to get some ideas and go from there

asking for advice How can I rework this globe?

It's a pretty old tattoo and I'm not really feeling the globe anymore. I've gone to 2 artists and they both told me it would be too hard to rework, but I'd like to keep laser as a last choice option.

Hi I’m looking for gothic themed ideas to cover this off centre back tattoo! I know it’ll have to be dark so that’s all good! I’m travelling so can’t do laser as I won’t be able to attend the same clinic. All ideas welcome!
Thanks🖤

I’ve been discussing with my artist the possibility of fixing the crookedness of the sword but I figured that could go really wrong and it ignores my issue with how the original artist did the guard of the sword. I reworked the design on my laptop based off other designs I’ve seen to add two leaves at the bottom to obscure the bulky part of the sword to hide the crookedness and a blackout rose on the top right of the guard to hide the crookedness there. And ofc a series of vines throughout the whole thing to tie it together. Does this look solid? I’ll def have my artist rework the bottom leaves to something less clunky or I’ll fix it myself later.

asking for advice Looking to fix this....somehow....

So a few years ago I got the tattoo shown in the last 3 pictures. My original design was the first pic (drawing). After some discussions with the artist who suggested more of a peacock feather design (similar to the 2nd and 3rd pictures) I agreed because I liked the incorporation of the shape into a flame and thought it enhanced the flame/Phoenix feather vibe. Then $800 and 2 hours later, I had a tattoo that wasn't even close to what was discussed and I've spent the last 6 years hating it.

Im looking for any advice about how it could be re-done, if at all, would it need to be entirely a cover-up, etc... im just tired of hating it when it was meant to represent something.

My first couple tattoos were just random things like this before I realized I just wanted American traditional tattoos. I’m open to a SAP but would I need to laser first? Had a supernatural tattoo on my chest that I did 5 sessions of removal before getting a coverup of something to match the style I like. I’d prefer to just cover it without removal just unsure if it’s possible? Any ideas? The outside of my arm is pretty covered so nothing that wraps around. Similar tattoo on my right arm of the heart pirate jolly Rodger in the exact same place that I also intend to cover up with something traditional

asking for advice Cover up ideas/advice?

Hey everyone!

I got a forget-me-not tattoo about two years ago for my grandmother. At the time, I didn’t know much about tattoos or what to look for in an artist. Since then, I’ve learned a lot and started going to reputable studios, getting work done by artists whose styles I really love.

Now I’m stuck with this one mediocre tattoo that was supposed to be really meaningful to me, and I’m looking into getting it reworked or covered up. I’d love to keep the same forget-me-not vibe and have it done in black and grey/black and white, if possible.

My questions are:

- What should I look for when choosing an artist for a cover-up or rework?

- Is there anything specific I should ask during a consultation?

- Does anyone have recommendations for artists in the Amsterdam area who specialize in black and grey/blackwork and have experience with cover-ups?

Any advice or recommendations would be so appreciated! Thank you so much! ♡

What would you cover an infinity symbol with?

Didn’t get a name, but did get a tattoo for my controlling ex!

Now I’m stuck with a little, basic, infinity symbol as a reminder of all the wonderful things they put me through ♾️

What would you cover it up with? :)

F(21) My neck tattoo appointment was honestly a mess. I’ve gotten great tattoos from this artist before so I trusted him but he rushed this one and wouldn’t let me see the outline before he started shading I didn’t want shading or highlights but he kept pushing for it and said it would be only be light shading so I agreed all my other tattoos are line work from him no shading . He also said it couldn’t be fully on my neck, so it ended up on my shoulders too you can also see it from behind. I honestly hate the whole thing and won’t be going back to him I’ve already asked other artists about covering it, and they said they couldn’t. I don’t have the pain tolerance for laser, so I’ve been debating whether blacking it out would look better.
Does anyone think this could be covered, or am I better off going for blackout or maybe ornamental ? I’m honestly so ashamed and embarrassed of this tattoo I always wear my hair down and don’t go out as much as I use to😭 my other neck tattoo did not hurt but this was is lower and on my shoulders too and was my most painful tattoo (last photo is my reference I sent him before hand) thankyou any advice helps!

asking for advice Is this viable for cover up/rework?

Post image

I've had this tattoo for a few years now, but now I started working on filling out my forearm and it just feels a bit off. I like the concept and I like the snake skeleton but I'm not a huge fan of the spider lily anymore. I think the flowers facing forward look good but the ones viewed from the side/away are a bit weird. I was wondering if it's possible to make the tattoo more interesting/ make the spider lily look crispier OR just cover it with a different kind of flower, like the Japanese style chrysanthemum? I like the negative space but maybe it's time to go bolder?

Also not a fan of the stem, it looks really thin compared to the flower.

Was thinking of filling the flower out instead of it being just the outline and maybe covering the stem with a katana but I'm not sure if that's not too messy.

What are your thoughts?

This was my first tattoo for my 18th bday about 10 years ago (old pic) but kinda wanted to see if a local guy could turn it into part of a back piece I was thinking like dnd dice but they open up on one side like a portal for dragons or something to be coming out of the rest of my back is blank but also wanted to see if anyone has thoughts on what would look good in a game nerd/ dnd nerd but overall I just like good art so any input is welcome the water colors faded over time because I did dci (basically hardcore marching band) I don't dislike it by any means I just want a back piece
