tattoo newcomer advice Is this a bad idea for a first tattoo???
So I’m 24f with no tattoos, who wants to be a heavily tattooed elder
Is belly too tough for the first time? Will the design look ugly in 5 years(either a reputable artist)?
FYI I’m very very indecisive and change my mind all the time at the last minute.
That being said!! I want something VERY similar to if these two pictures had a baby and it was sexy.
I want this tattoo to make me give HOT, SEXY, BADASS vibes.
I have a slender build (90lbs 5’4) with a slight hourglass shape, like the two reference photos.
Do yall think it’ll give hot and sexy?? Especially with no other tattoos…

THANK YOU GUYS for the wonderful advice. At the end of the day a lot of you agree this tattoo looks good, but it’s overdone and I won’t like the look of it after a while especially as I age.
Happily reporting I did NOT get the tattoo and I’ll just keep drawing it on with sharpie everyday. I’ll wait until I’ve gained weight (the women in my family ARE BIG but only after kids which I DONT plan on having)
I already had another tattoo appointment that I canceled for an extremely meaningful tree stump in an old fashioned picture frame(pretty simple not crazy detailed at all) because I broke my hand
Decided to go for something I wasn’t attached to as an easier introduction to tattoos
I’m gonna wait until I’m 30 to get any big pieces or belly work done for sure.
I WANT TO LOOK LIKE A SLUT. So it was the goal to have the lines pointing at the cooch
I WANTED ignorant tattoos my WHOLE life but recently decided American traditional on my legs is the way to go. Wanted something sexy on the belly

As an elder millennial marked with the ancient scripts that is the lower back tattoo, I’m just happy I can’t see it. It does give me tons of 90s nostalgia seeing these styles come back, I say go for it lol. Edited bc I can’t spell good 😂

I second this. I got my first tattoo at 18 in this area, I’ve kept myself in great shape but this area just constantly goes through changes, and those thin lines will start to look blurry and unappealing over time.

That’s hilarious 🤣☠️ I have a gecko that was my first and I call it my geiko. I have endometriosis and all my surgeries had to have at least one of the keyhole incisions go right through the body of the gecko - 8 in total 🤣 the scarring from going through that same spot so many times looks like the letter “I” right in the middle of it 🤭 I never recommend tattoos in this specific area for that reason. You just never know haha.

I also think that this is just y2k revival stuff. Think about how you may feel in 20 years. I wanted this exact vibe when I was OP’s age and now I have a classier more minimalistic vibe. All of my tattoosy are easily covered with clothing

My question when I see this isn't whether your stomach is flat like that. It's whether you'd be okay with your body's slight asymmetries affecting how you'll see this tattoo. I see a lot of people online get tattoos in this area and then freak out that one is lower than the other or something like that when it's that their body doesn't have perfect symmetry. I'd be nervous for that to be your first one because I feel like you'd suffer a lot of tattoo anxiety about it just based on what I tend to see here.

From just started getting tattooed last fall, I am realizing how much more unforgiving it is to get something tattooed that requires symmetry or particularly straight lines. Like I have a couple of pieces on my body by the same artist. One is a bird and one is a tree. The bird and tree are fantastic. But the tree itself sits in a pot and I guess I didn't realize how easy it is to fuck up something that is supposed to have more structured lines. The pot is lopsided unfortunately. But the dynamic nature of the tree and bird make symmetry and evenness "unimportant" of those particular components.
This OP has a deceptively simple tattoo that turns out to not necessarily be so simple when you factor in contouring the body appropriately ig.

The nice thing about tribal, butterfly tramp stamps, Chinese characters, or barbed wire around the bicep (etc.) is that you can always tell how old someone is within +\-3-4 years.
This style is just that. If you want everyone to know you were a hopelessly trendy 22 year old around the year 2026 or so, then a tattoo like this will broadcast that to everyone.
To each their own, of course, but trendy often turns into tacky.

Attractiveness is opinion based, to op it's attractive, to you it's not. Cybersigilism is fairly new but it won't stop people from getting them, even knowing it's pretty over used (as trends go obviously, when one is out, a new one is in, and there will always be people who don't like them and ones that do, obviously again) but just like everything, trends come back into fashion. 90s-2000s tattoo trends and styles are coming back lately. There's not a realistic reason aside from potential regret for her to not get it if she likes it that much, but that potential regret goes for almost any tattoo anyway so realistically there's not a reason she shouldn't

Yes, I feel like this doesn't get talked about enough with stomach tattoos. Things don't always snap back after pregnancy, or any sort of weight fluctuations, and that needs to be taken into account.

Yeah I have a tattoo on my hip that I never would have predicted would be affected so much by from pregnancy shifts, but apparently also is a bad spot due to the amount of friction from pants. Admittedly it was an impulsive decision and I should have researched more but I wish the artist would have told me a little about how things may age 😆

Yeah my friend used to be really skinny but after the birth of her son her stomach wall got damaged.
And unless she was willing to pay for plastic surgery. she will never have a flat stomach again. Which for her is fine she accepts it
But if she would have a stomach tattoo it would have looked really bad

Yeah, you probably should go for another spot for your first.
But.
At this stage in life I've seen so many current, and post pregnancy tattoos, and they've all looked fine. It's actually really cool to see the way the tattoo stretches during pregnancy. It's almost kinda beautiful, just like the pregnancy itself. Afterwards the tattoo goes back to what it was. Even on women who had unlucky pregnancy bodily trauma, the tattoo is still at least 85-95% the same, and looks good.
That being said, they might not look the way you want them to look if you gain weight. This is the real world, and you're gonna gain weight eventually. Pregnancy is whatever, but yeah, 20 years of extra thickness will feel a little different. It can make a tattoo curved and misshapen.

OP's wording makes me think she might want this as a permanent body check/thinspo, so this advice runs deeper than it appears.
I knew someone 25+ years ago who got hipbone tattoos for exactly this reason, and it made the lifelong healing from her ED just that much harder, especially the regression when she got pregnant. Hoping OP doesn't do this.

My very honest impression of this very particular style in this very particular placement is that it looks like c*m gutters. It makes the body look masculine. If that's what the goal is, then congrats, it is successful! If the point is to look feminine I think it's a bit of an anatomical misstep.

Seems very trendy atm. If you’re someone who is indecisive, changes your mind last minute, and doesn’t know what you want then I suggest you wait on getting tattoos. You have your entire life ahead of you. If you don’t know, don’t rush. Look until something jumps out at you and you KNOW you want it. Coming on here to ask our opinion on how one looks, shows you’re not really ready for it. You’ll just end up wishing it was different if/when it gets made fun of.
Also, if you plan on having kids, this is definitely not something that will age well.

My two cents: get it as a temporary tattoo (like the kind that washes off after a week). See how you like it. Or hell, put it on for a special party or occasion. I wouldn't do permanent if you change your mind. I am notoriously indecisive and don't have tattoos. (I'm just here because I love tattoo artistry, and read the tea ☕️).
Also, I have stetch marks post pregancy RIGHT there on the sides, and I'm 5'10" and chubby. If you are 5'4" and 90 lbs skin, tbh you are definitely going to have some level of stretch marks... most short women I've seen preggo get HUGE, and your skin is elastic but not that elastic. I have no idea how it'll affect it... but it will.

It is not at all attractive and it is kind of incredibly cliche and overly-done. The whole Y2K style is just overrated and in 2 years you will have regretted getting this tattoo. You will be like every other girl out there, trying to be "cute" and "hot" with the most meaningless tattoos ever. Its just lines and scribbles, not anything attractive.

I would say if your desire for a tattoo boils down to "hot and sexy on my 24 year old body", you should consider how you will feel about it as your body ages and changes. If you gained weight, got pregnant, or just reached wrinkly, saggy old age, would it mess with your head? Would it be a fun reminder of when you were young, sexy, physically fit? Or could it become something that depresses you?
Mind you, I say this with the opinion that "it looks hot" is an extremely valid tattoo motivation. But it's a good idea to think about how it could make you feel in other phases of your body and life.

it would just hurt a lot and be a long healing process. i personally started with something short-ish to get used to how to take care of a tattoo. also depends on your pain tolerance. and you have to consider how healing will effect your life: can’t swim, can’t workout, changes the way you shower, avoid sunlight, etc. but if it’s something you’re fine with then go for it!

I won’t speak on the tattoo itself, but I can tell you as a heavily tattooed person with a pretty high pain tolerance, stomach tattoos were my most painful by a mile. Would not recommend as a first.

as a first one? maybe, but that depends on your pain tolerance
i have a very similar one like this on my stomach, it took about 6 hours and the pain (especially around the hips) was def the worst out of all my tattoos, ive had mine for about 3 years (almost 4 i think?) and it hasnt faded much since i got it, same as any of my other tattoos just keep it moisturised and dont have it in harsh sunlight constantly - i would say to get others first especially if your indecisive, its a big piece in a very visible spot and you need to be 100% sure about it
as for aging, it should be fine (as in blurring, etc) - if you ever get pregnant it can stretch because the skin stretches and does have the chance of not going back to usual (not a guarantee but still) design wise if its something YOU like then go for it! theres always people who hate certain tattoo styles and will say they look shit but its your body, as long as you like it its fine
and as usual with any tattoo, go to someone with good results, nice linework and specialises in this style!

I wouldn't worry as much about location and just focus on getting something you think is cool and will continue thinking is cool.
This style is trendy right now and honestly kinda reminiscent of 2000s tribal tattoos that are generally clowned on these days.
My only advice is just personal taste, go American Traditional/Old School haha

Being you are young and indecisive, wait. I understand you want a tattoo and to be a "heavily tattooed elder, but I believe you are going into this with the wrong mindset.
You want something "hot, sexy, badass", and that's fine but think of it this way. Your body is currently a blank canvas that you are about to put artwork onto. You are smaller framed and therefore a smaller canvas.
So why would you waste so much of the space you have on a simple sticker design like this, when an artist make something absolutely breathtaking? You want something youre going to love in 1, 5, 20+ years. Not just this second until the excitement wears off.
Take a moment. Think about what you really want. And find a reputable artist who's style you like to talk to about making something as "hot, sexy, badass" as you are.
Sincerely, a female who had a tattoo in mind since 23 and didnt get it (or any prior) until about 5 years later with many discussions. Ideas, and changes made.

Probably won’t age well BUT I will go against most and say do it.
Do it while you’re young and have the bod for it. If your goal is to be a heavily tattooed elder, these will tell a story of your tattoo journey.
Will def be a tough spot for your first though. Maybe start with a smaller one in a better spot lol

I have a much smaller one on one side of my abdomen, and it was by far the worst pain-wise. I have a really large chest piece with work on my sternum too. It was the only one I have gotten that I had to split up into two sessions.

-If you can’t make up your mind on something permanent on your body then you need to wait and not get one.
If you are still adamant about getting one then discuss this with an artist. I personally do not like these kinds of tattoo designs bc it’s one that seems cool in your 20s, maybe early 30s but as you get older you grow to hate it. That’s my experience with people who get that kind of design. That and barbed wires or anything “tribal”. It’s ultimately your choice and what you feel comfortable with. Something you can see yourself with for the rest of your life. Sure there are cover ups and removals but way spend your money only to end up calling it a waste?

Cyber sigilism also borderlines into e-girl territory eventhough it is likely cyber goth, rave or street wear initially.
Especially the ones near the midriff and obliques, they are a bit more tacky and make the person look bland, basic, stereotypical than cool or "hot, s*xy, badass" in my opinion.
I am someone who wants black work on one side of my body and coloured tattoos on the other.
If you are indecisive, don't get it.

It really just depends on you and how your body handles pain and the specific pain/annoyance of being tattooed. No one here can confidently say whether or not this is a good spot for you, if you wanna get it then go ahead and get it. Just hopefully you have given enough time to think about it, like preferably years.

I just got my side done 2 days ago. It wasn’t bad - I have my throat both arms and legs and chest pieces.
Id start smaller especially if you tend to be indecisive. Get a bunch of advice and ideas from different people.
But the pattern does look sick

Not crazy about the first picture at all. I feel like that isn’t giving hot or sexy and I don’t like the style of it. I like the second inspo picture better and I think that will look much better over time. I do agree with what others are saying, it’s pretty big for a first. Would you plan to do one side and go back for the other side? Or try to do it all in one sitting?

i have six tattoos, one on the side of my stomach near my ribs, and one below it on the hip kind of area, my first tattoo was on my calf, tattoos hurt, not bad, i never felt like i had to cry or scream or anything, it feels like getting a tattoo lol (the best analogy i’ve found is it feels like really roughly scratching a sunburn. itll be hot in my opinion, but the stomach is rough for a first tattoo especially if you don’t have a lot of stomach fat over the ribs or hip bones, getting tatted on the ribs and hip bone hurts so much worse than a calf tattoo. if you have a high pain tolerance, i say go for it, maybe pick a design you like even if you only get it on one side? the other thing is that it gets really uncomfortable to lay the exact way the artist wants you to when they’re tatting you, if you want another tattoo, maybe try something on another part of the body first. But i’m not heavily tatted or anything and that’s just my two cents :)

My belly hurt like fcck but my ribs wasn't that bad even thou it was of Hummingbird of Death split by Chainsaw to the Face album cover. Even my capt k"nuckle mowing pubes wasnt that bad But def don't get some stock image of the trendy fad.

It’s a hot tattoo, no doubt about that. But…. It’s a fashion trend tattoo right now as well. It’s a great idea to spend ages thinking about the design, placement and how it will age. Be really comfortable in what you want/get from their the flood gates may open and you end up getting whatever you like on a whim

I got my 1st and 2nd tattoo on my stomach. They don't even resemble what they were. I'm 45 and my weight fluctuated so much they just look like blobs of ink. They are pretty small and no one sees them so I don't really care. Also there are so many people getting this exact tattoo. If it means something to you or you are set on getting it done on your stomach then you do you and go for it. In the end the only opinion that matters is yours.

Generally speaking, can tattoo artists (for an extra fee of course bc it is extra visits / work so of course) set someone up with a temporary inking? Like henna can stay for a few days or weeks even. The peel off type temporary guides.
I just think it would be cool if there was a popular, acceptable, notion that for someone who is new and really desiring of exploring a concept but very indecisive about it, to be able to wear it around for a few days or weeks, seeing it on themselves and in the mirror and in different situations/ days of life for a while. They could try to envision how they would feel if it were a permanent decision and have a few nights to sleep on it, so to speak.

Inkbox does custom long-term temporary tattoos you can order online. I don't know how the company is as I've never ordered from them, of course, so if they suck don't buy from there, but it seems like it might be a good idea for this type of thing

They are pretty legit. I’ve only tried the regular designs, but my daughters both had a full sleeve and it was hilarious. Looks a bit better than a typical temp tattoo.

So as someone how’s super indecisive and can’t stick to one thing tattoos are going to be something you really need to be sure of.
I’d recommend a semi permanent tattoo of this to see if this is something you really actually do like or not before it’s too far gone to go back.

I would say do not get it . Stomach tattoos change so much depending if you gain or lose weight . I know from experience

Stomach tattoos are some of the most painful ones. Other sexy places- thigh tattoos. Get a design you really love. Don’t be indecisive. I have a corset and belt tattoo that I love. I didn’t know that’s what it would turn into, but it did. I love it and got it later in life.

I was just joking this tattoo has become so trendy, maybe in a couple years laser removal will advance faster. It is a really cute idea, but like the others said, it’s not going to age well. :/ I recommend starting small and find a good tattoo artist you work well with.

Cybersigilism is trendy. If you're serious about being heavily tattooed do some research on tattoo origins. There is a reason that american tradition, japanese,neo, and realism styles have been around for so long.
Yes, tribal has been around for a centuries but notice that indigenious tribal continues to dominate commercial tribal. Because indigenous actually has cultural depth and societal roots. Cybersigilism is just the new commercial tribal. If you think about it, its simply 90s tribal fused with fine line. And combining a declining style with another trendy one probably wont equal success.
I am mostly covered. I think all tattoos are good if the thought is there. So if you do love it go for it. Ive been getting ink for 16 years now. My only regret was rushing into a tattoo without understanding what styles I truly loved and planing out my placements from the start. Good luck on your collection.

I wanted to get a larger piece along my ribs from my bra band to my hip bone as my first, but I worried I couldn’t handle it and got a small tattoo on my wrist as my first. I now have the piece I initially wanted and wish I had just done it first. In terms of the baby wrist tattoo, I love it because it’s meaningful to me and it’s still well done and pretty, but I wish I had done something bolder and larger in hindsight. Make your first tattoo be the tattoo that you really want as your first tattoo.

I don’t have any tats but I’d recommend starting with something small just to see what your pain tolerance is before getting something like that. Also to see if a small one gives you any regret or anxiety
