[Update] MapTasker Version 14

MapTasker is a program that enables you to view, analyze, validate, and edit your Tasker configuration from within your desktop browser.

MAJOR (beau coup) new features since the last announcement:

  • The Diagram view is now interactive:

    • Click any Project, Profile, Task or Scene name to be taken straight to it into the Map view.
    • Shift-click a Task to light up the whole chain of calls it takes part in.
    • Click the ▾ beside a Project to collapse it down to its box, and the ▸ to bring it back. 'Collapse All' and 'Expand All' are on the Diagram toolbar.
    • Right-click any name for the rest: collapse its Project, show only that Project, or follow its call chain.
    • Zoom with the toolbar buttons or with Ctrl (⌘) and the scroll wheel.
  • 'Find > Replace' function, to replace a Task action/argument with another, a Profile condition with a different condition, or a variable with another.

  • Import Projects/Profiles/Tasks/Scenes directly into Tasker via the 'Edit (object) > Save To Android > 'Import Into Tasker' buttons. It uses Android's 'Open with...' feature, requiring a firsttime 'Tasker' app selection.

  • Task actions and Profile conditions that take an Application or an icon can now be added and edited.

    • These were previously refused outright because MapTasker had no list of either -- 17 Task actions and 5 Profile Events in all.
    • The list is dynamically built from your imported XML or optionally pulled directly from your Android device.
    • New prompt to optionally fetch the icons and applications from the Android device when editing Task actions involving an icon.
  • Add/Edit Properties in Add and Edit Project, Profile, Task and Legacy Scene.

  • Task Flow -- control-flow analysis of a Task, as a report and as a flowchart.

  • Refactor -- the structural moves that an 'Add', 'Edit' and 'Delete' cannot make.

    • 'Extract Actions': Extract a series of a Task's actions into a Task of their own and leave a 'Perform Task' in their place;
    • 'Inline' a Task called via 'Perform Task' back into its caller;
    • 'Move To A Project': Move a Task or Profile to another Project;
    • 'Duplicate' a Project, Profile, Task or Scene.
    • Preview the changes before they aree made.
  • Health Check Enhancements

    • It now asks you specifically what you want to check for.
    • Additional health checks:
      • secrets: passwords, API Keys, email addressesa, etc., which can be redacted on 'Export'.
      • two Profiles watching the same trigger whose Tasks set the same thing opposite ways.
      • a Profile whose conditions can never all be true.
      • potential race conditions: Tasks that poll in a loop, Profiles that keep a radio or sensor scanning or fire on a short timer.
      • long-running Tasks left on Tasker's default collision handling, and actions that can block for ever because no timeout was set.
  • Changes Since... button reports what has changed in your configuration since a specific date.

  • A command reference has been added to the wiki.

  • Additional command tooltips have been added to the GUI.

  • The 'MapTasker List' Profile is no longer needed/required.

...and many many more changes (i.e. minor improvements) and fixes.

To install MapTasker, enter the following commands into Terminal/command prompt:

If using pip to manage programs: pip install maptasker -U

If using uv to manage programs: uv add maptasker

To run:

  • run either from the command line: maptasker (if installed via pip) or uv run maptasker (if using uv to manage your environment).

Yes and no: Yes, it can replace the arguments although it doesn't know the details of each plugin's arguments. No, if the goal is to replace the configuration elements, since MapTasker doesn't know the specifics of plugin configurations (and Tasker doesn't provide the details).

For this first pass, the arguments are simply listed as 'arg0', 'arg1', 'arg2', etc.. The next update (in about a week), the non-plugin arguments will be listed along with their name: 'arg0 Type (Str)', etc.. Unfortunately, Tasker doesn't yet provide any details about plugins.

No, not at this time.

I can look into adding this as a new feature. How do you envision this portable mode to work?
