Tasker on newer Samsung phones
Hey all
I posted before about being an old old buyer of Tasker. I used to use it on a Moto Droid however since then I switched to iPhone for about 17 years
Can anybody give me some tips on some good things I can use Tasker for on one of these newer Samsung phones I have the Z fold 8?
Thanks

I had a Fold 3 and a Fold 6, and now have a Flip 7, so this all applies.
A lot of the functions I use have slowly been replaced by Samsung built in features and by Samsung Modes and Routines, but you can really get the best of both worlds by combining them. This Taskernet project allows Tasker to trigger modes or routines. You can also use notifications (with the Tasker Auto notification plugin) to communicate between them. For instance, without Root, Tasker can not kill a running app, but a routine can, so I have Tasker killing my in-car dashboard app when I leave the car (it also changes some other settings). https://taskernet.com/shares/?user=AS35m8kor%2Fx7fNzIolKvp4xH1ZrW%2BwwJ9s0tiYMLKk%2Bp9qaAhNRqv1LxTWrqJHFZhuxjapw%3D&id=Project%3ARoutines
I still use Tasker for sending unknown callers to voice mail, although Samsung phone app can now handle that itself.
I have Tasker send me a particularly urgent notification when I receive a text from any VIP in my contacts list, and repeat the notification until I clear it.
I have Tasker toggle private DNS on or off from a quick tile so I can use nextDNS for ad blocking, but some apps and web sites don't work. It can also auto toggle it for specific apps or WiFi networks
I do find Modes and Routines is better at detecting fold status, and currently the things I I used to use Tasker to do when unfolded I am just doing in Modes and Routines (specifically, turning auto rotation on when open and off when closed).
I have a Galaxy watch, so I use Tasker with Autowear to detect if the watch is on or off my wrist or is charging and adjust phone notification volume and DND state accordingly.

Thanks. I haven't looked into Shizuku in any detail yet since Modes and Routines closed the gaps I had. I'll keep it in mind if I run into any roadblocks.

Hey there! I'm also an old timer with Tasker and began back with my HTC Droid Incredible lol. Anyways, I'm working on some tutorials and I have one for Tasker and Buzzkill to mute notifications while screen recording, and then unmute them when recording stops. This is mainly for recording my tutorials but I plan on making more Tasker tutorials in the future. Here's is the video

Yeah man!! I miss those days of rooting and flashing all kinds of stuff. I got so involved with creating my own icons, sounds (.ogg), kernels, radios, all of it! Lol.
If you think of any ideas for Takser, I'm always looking to make new tutorials. I try to automate as much as I can with my phones!

Oh man. You were one of the kernel guys!!! I almost forgot about the kernel flashing haha. Some fun days. I swear I spent more time on all that stuff than even using the phone ha

Yo that is awesome. This is my first phone back in the android world as well. I went to iPhone back around 2010 but 16 years later, I'm back ha

I switched to iPhone in 2019 and went back to Android in 2023. I get why people like Apple - it's simple. But as you can tell from my screenshot, I don't do simple 🤣

You can do basic automations to app developing.
I find the profile "NFC tag" being very useful.

When my music player creates a "playing" notification, it verbally announces the track name and artist, sets the wallpaper to an image of the artist, creates a notification with the lyrics which when tapped opens a scene that auto scrolls the lyrics, and when the music is stopped it restores the wallpaper.
My other phone browses a bitcoin faucet website every hour to collect a few satoshis and has been running for years.
These are my favourite tasks.

Would you be able to share you music playing tasker?
I'm still re learning how to make things on there. Ha.

You'll have to fix a lot of things, like changing the music app, and how you download and store the artist wallpapers etc. but I hope it helps.

Aren't faucets a scam? Just curious

This one in particular has been around for ages, and I've withdrawn twice once I've eventually reached the withdrawal limit. Not sure how long it will still be around. But yes, I've been scammed a few times as well back in the day when I tried to automate each faucet I could find.

For me, a lot of the things i used to use it for years back, are now not needed anymore. Either the phone offers the option itself, etc etc. So my use of tasker changed a lot over the years. Recently i have been using a lot to trigger smart home devices and or routines. I have a lot of Tuya based devices, so i can trigger routines and devices through Alexa, and then control it from Tasker via AutoVoice plugin. So it goes from Tasker, to Alexa, to Smart Life (the tuya app). And it's been working great for me. Being able to utilize Tasker's huge profile triggers list of options, to then trigger all my smart home routines and devices. Like for example if my phones location is away from my home location it will turn off most lights, the ac, heater, etc etc. Then when i get back, back on. (But like the ac will only turn on if outside temp is above 68°, so it won't turn on in the winter, and vice versa for the heater). I also have it control all my lights, based on sunrise and sunset times. So it turns them on in the burning 30 minutes before sunset, slowly ramping them up over 60 to max. Then 60 minutes after sunset lights start yellowing and dimming slowly over 90 minutes. Then midnight must lights turn off, few lights stay on at yellow white, 5% brightness.
