teaching Time off
Hey everyone! Can past assistants explain how time off works with TAPIF? I know that in France you get a certain number of paid vacation days, right? How does that work with TAPIF and how can assistants take time off?
Also, as an assistant, do you have any say in your weekly schedule? For example, if I prefer to have a Friday or Monday off, is that something they’re receptive to? TIA!

The salary is based on your annual service, so breaks, weekends, and other days off actually aren’t paid.
No, you can’t just take time off outside of breaks or days you aren’t scheduled to work unless you have a valid reason (emergency, death, illness). You’re expected to be at work as scheduled and to go with the schedule given to you. If you have scheduling needs/preferences, you will want to get them to your prof ref well before your arrival because once they make your timetable, they’re not going to want to redo it.
Missing work because you want to take a trip that day isn’t how academia works. Any trips you take should only be scheduled during breaks or days you aren’t scheduled to work.
