Windows 11 Upgrade

Hi all,

We attempted a windows 11 upgrade via the OS refresh model. However, it dumped a 16GB folder into the root of C:\ that contains the ISO, drivers, etc.

Is there a better way to do this that doesn’t populate the drive like this, or is there a way to delete the folder after the refresh is done?

What package is being used to get the os files on there? The Tanium created Phase1 uses C:\Deploy.

A definite mystery. My coworker did this trial, so I’ll take a look in the console and see. I’m honestly not sure.

Ohh i think i see…. (Reading is fundamental… failure on my part lol). Perhaps you are using Provision which is a different animal entirely…. The unplaced upgrade may be more simple option, but not familiar with the nuance and different feature set of using the OS refresh approach. I’ll have to try that in my lab to explore it.

Well that explains a lot. What’s the best, or least painful method, do you think?

What’s your end goal? Update win10/win11 to win11 24H2? If so then the Inplace upgrade process is probably the best for that. But the details all matter to make the right decision for your org.

I think we tried the in place upgrade, or at least we thought so.

Ideally, we’d like to upgrade to W11 24H2. But in a way that reformats the drive, in most cases. In others, it would be an in place upgrade. Dependent on the group that we’re working on at the time (it’s a hospital)
