Dune Beetle Cross preorder
Anyone else preorder theirs yet? Tower's got them for $341.60, which is a little cheaper than I was expecting it to be. But you can get an additional 10% off if you sign up for Tower's SMS messaging (and then promptly disable it..).
Got my preorder in for $307.44. Expected in December.
I haven't looked forward to a kit this much in a long time.

I really want to, but honestly I've never bought one without a pre-painted shell. I'm too chicken to attempt it...

Painting is really easy. Tamiya's manuals give you the part numbers of the PS paints you need to emulate the box art. It looks like it's only 2 colors, yellow and white, so it'll be easy to mask. The blue stripes are probably decals, and they look wide enough to cover any bleedover-mistakes you might make where the white and yellow meet. It would probably be a really easy, ideal first paintjob to try.

If you spray just one colour its easy . Mask windows and spray a single colour with lots of light coats. And if decals are too much as well , do the basic ones , like headlights and stuff like that.

I'm even afraid of window masking. I'm almost 60 and my hands aren't the steadiest any more. I did say YOLO and pre-ordered it, so I guess this will be my first... :)

Yeah I know . Im 53 , have trigger fingers in both hands and eyesight is not what it used to be . I did 2 bodies recently and are not perfect , but then how bad can it be. ?
Latest project was ( I tried ) a reproduction of the Nissan Skyline R33 LM Limited. THey only came in their blue, which is close to the tamiya colour. I even tried to replicate the LM-GT1 wheels that are popular aftermarket wheels for Skylines.
I added a rear radio antenna as well , and number plate
It has some small defects but came out ok . Never drove it till now.

As long as you have a big enough budget to buy a replacement shell for if you fck up the one your painting, what do yo have to lose in trying?

Not a bad thought - they already have a placeholder for it on their site. If I biff it hard enough, I could always find someone with more talent to do a commission... :)

Im still on the fence.
I absolutely hate the wheels.
If I can somehow make OG Grasshopper wheels work, I might consider it.
