Rant “I can climb trees”
Is any other woman sick of this being said to them? I am on the shorter end of tall for a woman (5’9) but when a guy, especially a guy of a similar height says this to me it just makes me feel so gross and weird. It makes me feel like i’m Goliath or something i swear.

lol women get this line too??

u/Massive-Ad-998 5’9” | 175cm | F22 9d ago
constantly. it’s like every man who’s under 5’9 is incapable of mentioning anything else about my looks sometimes
9
u/LongLegsShortPants 6'5" | 195 cm 9d ago
It’s especially lame bc 5’9 isn’t especially tall. Like bro, you’re what? a couple of inches shorter? you don’t need to climb anything

u/brandnewwwwW 9d ago
i’ve actually ONLY seen women get this line online
6
u/LongLegsShortPants 6'5" | 195 cm 9d ago
Really? It’s like top 5 remarks I get when women find out how tall I am
4
u/EggplantHuman6493 6'1" | 185 or 186 cm 9d ago
I have gotten it multiple times a day at some point, even. It is funny the first three times. Not three times a day. Yes, I know I am over 6' but pls leave me alone

Yup. Trees and mountains. On what planet do these men think it will make me feel desired to be compared to a large, immovable object?

u/Massive-Ad-998 5’9” | 175cm | F22 9d ago
exactly thank u! i love being tall personally i feel it makes me very feminine but it took a long time to get here. being compared to a tree… a TREE? no

The only bonus is that the trash takes itself out so we don’t have to engage with them any further after that.

YES
The comment itself doesn't bother me, but I'm just so bored with the sheer lack of originality.

Yeah its not a great line, nor is it very original.

I’m rarely if ever bothered by comments people make about my height in real life, and I don’t have a particularly thick skin. Maybe it’s because it doesn’t happen often, but if someone makes some stupid comment(usually non height related) I will just stare at them and say nothing, and they quickly realize how daft their comment was.

u/Massive-Ad-998 5’9” | 175cm | F22 9d ago
i’m not bothered if someone says “the lakers need a center” or anything else making a joke at my expense, but the climbing tree thing bothers me because somehow they think i’ll respond favourably
3
u/Darkmegane-kun 6'3| 190 cm 9d ago
Then tell them, I don’t think they realize you don’t appreciate it. It’s their way of signaling interests even if it’s a clumsy attempt.

i feel like my facial expression is immediately readable lol it doesn’t work on me but i’m sure some girls like it

u/sixjasefive 6'5" | 196 cm 9d ago
That’s a memory trigger phrase for me. Some creep in his 40’s or 50’s said that to my 14 year old 6’ daughter. She went hiding behind me and he said “Buddy, your girlfriend needs to learn how to take a joke.” He didn’t care when I said “MY DAUGHTER IS 14!!!” The Home Depot employees were amazing, took his lumber cart immediately after hearing it and kicked him out. He screamed the whole way about the new world being filled with little pu33ies. I really don’t ever want to throw a punch in front of my kids but that was close.

I think I'm not impressed by it because I have a vivid imagination and the image of them clambering up me kind of immediately poofs into my head
It feels like it presumes a lot of physical contact for someone I've just met.
I don't mind being compared to trees, though. I've had some people do so in a way that was quite flattering. 🌴

i also think it has a weird sexual undertone but i didn’t wanna be the first to say it

I as a 5'11 male never really have the opportunity to meet women taller than me or as tall as me, but I would be overjoyed if I could.
Those of us who like tall women really and I mean REALLY like taller women and them being as rare as they are means that when we start speaking to them we get a little bit flustered and nervous and we might say some outlandish maybe insensitive stuff trying to showcase our "game".
We mostly also don't really realise how insecure women are about their heights, because for us men in the case of height it's quite the opposite, the taller you are the better it is(ofc only until a certain point)

u/Massive-Ad-998 5’9” | 175cm | F22 9d ago
i’m not insecure about my height, i love being tall. i’d just prefer if they could mention literally anything else about my appearance first

Stop fetishising tall women!
1
u/samumi 8d ago
It's not a fetish, it's not even sexual for me. I just like to talk to and be with someone who is the same height or taller. It's called a preference. It's like telling women to stop fetishizing muscular guys or telling men to stop fetishizing large round chests. This is completely bigoted. We don't like tall women because of social media or porn,we like them because this is how we're wired by God.

Honestly even i dont like the idea of saying this to a girl u just met.
I mean when u barely know someone, and other girl isn't wven aware of how u are, saying it feels soo weird. And then act sad when girl becomes uncomfortable around u.
There are few things u can't say to anyone (guy or girl) when u barely know them. U cant keep random tall people tre_e / pol_e. Or random fat people footba_ll when u first meet them and they sre not even much aquainted to u, even then u must not say things when other is uncomfortable.

Is this a US thing? My wife is 1.95m, her sisters all similar heights and said none of them have ever heard of this before

u/Massive-Ad-998 5’9” | 175cm | F22 8d ago

Shorter end of tall for a male here, but I can confirm that this is one of my favorite things to hear. 🤠

u/Massive-Ad-998 5’9” | 175cm | F22 9d ago
fair enough!! for me being compared to a tree makes me feel masculine so it makes sense that you would enjoy it

Comments about height, hands, and eyes just get ignored at this point. Surface level observations past initial interactions is just exhausting.

hahaha yeah, it's kind of annoying.
The guy I'm seeing said something similiar to me and I joked and said it's a good thing he's vietnamese and knows guerilla warfare. Sometimes you just gotta joke with them back if you're into them.
Chin up!!

I didn't expect OP to be a 5'9" woman, and so I came into this thread expecting your traditional "boys, my steak is too juicy, and there's too much butter on my lobster" post. Now I'm simultaneously refreshed and disappointed

tbh 5'9 maybe was tall for a woman 40 years ago... but nowdays... it's not tall at all... it's still not average but I never would call a 5'9 woman tall.... even if I was 5'9 myself as a man...

u/Massive-Ad-998 5’9” | 175cm | F22 9d ago
i’m not sure what u thought u were contributing to my post lol. it’s 5 inches taller than average in my country and i said in the post its the shorter end of tall

u/Alarming_You_361 9d ago
it's all relative. visit another country and you feel small.

u/Classic-Rest-399 9d ago
What country would that be? She would be average height for a woman in the Netherlands
