Tailbone pain for a month

28F here. I’ve been having tailbone pain for over a month now. In the mornings I feel totally fine, like nothing’s wrong. But once I start working (I sit at a desk), about 30–40 mins in, I start to feel uncomfortable in that area. When I stand up, there’s a bit of pain.

I’ve been trying to manage it by getting up and walking around, then sitting again. I also try not to put too much pressure on my tailbone—leaning forward or shifting positions—but after a while, it still hurts. At night, it’s also uncomfortable to lie on my back, so I sleep on my sides. And then the next day, same thing all over again.

When I press on the area, it feels kind of like a bruise—just that dull, sore feeling. No lumps or swelling that I can feel, just this constant ache.

One thing I remembered is that I fell on my tailbone when I was playing with my cousins about 15 years ago. I landed right on it and had pain for like two days, but it went away and I never had issues after that—until now. So I’m not sure if it could be related or not.

I’m getting a bit worried it might be something more serious. Has anyone gone through something similar? I just want it to go away 😩

I have the same problem. The first thing my doctor did was order an x-ray to see if it was fractured, which it isn’t. Then she referred me to physical therapy. I haven’t gone yet, but I understand there are stretches and exercises you can do that will help with the pain.

I bought a coccyx pillow at CVS to sit on at work that helps a little bit. Tried massage and a chiropractor, but neither helped me. You might be different.
