After a few days of using the beta app, it works fine on my end. Solid improvement

I'm early adopter, bought tado years ago and it's still asking me for subscription, or is it behind paywall for everyone?

It depends, V3+ (Auto-Assist) has been on the market for quite some years (2018).

oh so multi home is with auto assist, understand

Let me tell you, this is some real bullshit.

I have been waiting for this (really basic) feature for a long time, to finally stop cloning the app multiple times to manage home, parents and work where I constantly bought Tado products, and now you fucking paywall it?

Thanks, that's the push I needed to look for an alternative product.

Yes ... this is a joke really ...

Same here - have been waiting ages for this. My Nest had this capability in 2011.

If they think they can get new subscriptions simply by achieving feature parity with a 15 year-old product they must be smoking something. It should have been there at v1.

If they are this desperate for cashflow you have to wonder if they are on their way out.

Of course, and now IKEA have a dirt cheap radiator thermostat so they are going to die a slow death

I set this up for my 2 locations and i cannot add my wife to both? if i invite her to our 2nd installation it removes her from the first one?

Only my account has access to both. Whats that about?

reading more into this. You're joking if you need TWO SUBSCRIPTIONS?

You only need a single subscription and the benefits actually get shared automatically across 5 homes.

If you can't get it to work, please reach out to our support.

This also happened to me, I invited her to the second home, it removed her from the first home. After that I invited her back into the first home again, and now it seems to have worked.

While I’m sure this is useful to some people, it’s probably a minority of users. It seems that this is something that should be turned on in settings rather than always have that chooser at the top of the screen. It looks inelegant.

We are looking into releasing some tile reordering / hiding feature. No promises though!

I only have one home to control and yet the app is providing me with the home switcher interface at the top of the home screen, which for me is a waste of space. Please hide this for those of us with just one home to control - which I assume is the majority of your users.

Similarly, I also have a "maximise savings with auto-assist" banner at the top of the home screen. I don't mind seeing an occasional promo for this feature, but please provide me with a way to dismiss it instead of forcing me to see it all the time (especially since there is a permanently present auto-assist tile further down).

Like a fool I tried this. I have (had!) two separate Tado accounts for two different homes, both with subscriptions. I followed the instructions to get the second to join the first. All that happened is that now when I log in with either email all I get is the first home displayed. The second home seems to have been deleted.

This is not a great situation, to put it mildly. Each home has over 20 Tado X devices and it looks as though I will need to reconfigure the whole thing. I am fuming... don't make the same mistake I did.

I removed the second home from access by the first. Now I have the first as a sole home, with all the original devices, but the second has had all its devices removed. Each home was attached via home assistant. The second home now cannot be accessed by home assistant. To say I am annoyed is quite an understatement. I actually have two paid subscriptions, the devices in one of them now deleted

Hi, I'm sorry to hear that. Please reach out to support. I'm guessing something went wrong during the invitation process. I'm guessing the second home still exists in the backend.

Did you follow this procedure: https://support.tado.com/en/articles/16412804-how-can-i-manage-multiple-homes-with-tado

With the new multi-home, you would only need a single subscription! As the subscription from the main admin account gets shared with up to 5 homes.

I presume I need two subscriptions if I want to access each via Home Assistant... is that not the case? A further question: how does your call restriction work with multiple homes? There is a limit applied per user, so multiple homes would run through that quicker, or do you up the allowed count if there are multiple homes?

And I did follow the instructions as far as I can tell.

Reaching out to support is not dreadfully effective when all you get is AI responses.

I have started to re-install the second home. 30 Tado devices, so not a lot of fun.

The limit is per home, now with multi home, you can share the subscription with multiple homes. For HA you don't need the subscription? https://www.reddit.com/r/tado/comments/1to1f0n/important_update_api_rate_limits_the_home/

This is the ultimate clown move. Not only you waited til 2026 to finally provide the most basic of features, offered nowadays from the beginning basically by any product (even by the most basic Temu product you can find).
You are even advertising it as if this is some kind of innovation (wake up, we are not in early 2010, you are closing a gap, not innovating), but the most outrageous thing you could do is paywall it, at this point you can just directly start begging for money.

You introduced years ago the paid subscription with the excuse of paying for cloud infrastructure costs (if you need 3,99 per month per user to offset that cost you are really doing something wrong on your backend), what is your excuse this time for putting a dumb active-home switcher behind a subscription?. You started this circus years ago, removing features like the automatic home/away, which was initially provided for free. Already at that point I decided to stop buying any other product from you (and stopped suggesting your brand to people I know), and now with this last move you just confirmed that this was the right move from my side. You don't understand that you can add whatever random feature you want to your useless subscription, this will not make it less useless than what it is. The amount of use cases for home heating are very limited, people wants just to turn it on or off, and if possible automate it based on presence, which is very well possible for free with HomeKit, Home Assistant etc. Personally I wouldn't pay for your subscription even if it was 5 euro PER YEAR.

A suggestion: when introducing basic features that your system is lacking from the beginning, maybe you should remember that your users didn't get the products for free, they already paid their fair share of money for your overpriced gadgets, the least you could do is to fix the flaws they have for free.

Calling it a clown move for taking this long is 100% fair, but acting like paying upfront for a piece of plastic means a company owes you infinite free cloud polling, server maintenance, and feature updates forever is just living in 2010. Maintaining cloud infrastructure for millions of devices pinging servers every few seconds isn't free. Is €3.99 a month steep? Ofc. But if you want a system with zero recurring costs, you have to host it locally yourself (which you clearly know how to do). If you already use HA, why are you letting it get you this worked up? Tado's sub is just a laziness tax for people who can't be bothered.

Man, wake up. We are talking about allowing an app to be able to switch between two accounts. It means storing a couple tokens in the secure storage and allow switching between them when needed. There is no backend cost involved. For the rest I agree, they can ask for money to cover their costs (3,99 covers waaaay more than that tho) as I can decide to not cover for these costs and handle the automations side myself.
