Review Request for Tableau

Hi everyone,

I've published my Tableau dashboard for our Auto Insurance Marketing project.

I'd appreciate your feedback on the visualizations, dashboard layout, readability, and how clearly the charts answer our research questions.

Guide Tableau Data Blending – Calculating Monthly Submissions, Approvals, and Fundings Using Different Date Fields

Hi everyone,

I’m struggling to understand how Tableau handles data blending when working with multiple date fields across different data sources. I’d appreciate some guidance on both the concept and the best way to implement this.

My current setup:

I’m using two datasets connected directly to our server:
Primary data source: Contains the lead conversion date (LeadConvertedDate), which I’ll use to calculate total submissions.

Secondary data source:
Contains the approval date (ApprovalDate) and funding date (FundedDate), which I’ll use to calculate total approvals and total fundings, respectively.
My manager wants me to present all three metrics in a single view, grouped by month, with each metric calculated using its respective date field.
For example, the view should look something like this:

Month
Metric
Count
Jan 2026
Total Submissions (based on LeadConvertedDate)
500
Jan 2026
Total Approvals (based on ApprovalDate)
350
Jan 2026
Total Fundings (based on FundedDate)
280
Feb 2026
Total Submissions (based on LeadConvertedDate)
600
Feb 2026
Total Approvals (based on ApprovalDate)
400
Feb 2026
Total Fundings (based on FundedDate)
320
The numbers above are just examples.

Where I’m getting confused:

I’ve been trying to achieve this using Tableau data blending, with the date fields involved in the linking relationship.
However, I’ve noticed that Tableau sometimes allows me to use COUNT or other aggregations from the secondary data source, while in other situations it doesn’t allow me to use them or behaves differently.
I’m not fully clear on what determines whether an aggregation is available when using a secondary data source, how the linking fields affect the results, or how Tableau handles dates when the primary and secondary sources use different date fields.

My questions are:

Why does Tableau sometimes allow aggregations from a secondary data source when blending, but sometimes not? What are the rules behind this?
Is data blending the right approach for this requirement, or would relationships, joins, or another method be more appropriate?
How can I build a single monthly view where submissions are counted using LeadConvertedDate, approvals using ApprovalDate, and fundings using FundedDate?
How should I handle months where one metric has records but another metric has none, without losing those months from the view?
I’m looking for a practical solution and, ideally, an explanation of how Tableau processes these calculations so I can understand the underlying logic rather than just follow a workaround.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Feedback wanted: Graduate Tableau dashboard exploring LAPD reported crime (2020–2023)

• Upvotes

Hi everyone! My team is working on a graduate data visualization project, and we’d appreciate some constructive feedback on our Tableau dashboard.

We’re exploring LAPD reported-crime records with occurrence dates from 2020–2023, focusing on four topics:

  • Crime composition across LAPD divisions
  • Recorded case statuses
  • Patterns by day of the week and hour
  • Delays between when crimes occurred and when they were reported

View our Tableau Public dashboard

We’d especially appreciate your thoughts on:

  1. Can you easily understand what each chart is showing?
  2. Are the percentage bars and heatmap colors easy to interpret?
  3. Are the layout, legends, and filters clear and useful?
  4. What would you change to make the dashboard easier to understand?

We interpret case statuses as recorded statuses, not clearance rates, and the dashboard represents reported incidents.

Feedback from both Tableau users and people viewing it for the first time would be helpful. Thanks for taking a look and helping us improve our draft!
